cobra Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Last year I was an outdoor only smoker, not by preference but due to the woman that lives in my house with me (Mrs Cobra). Over the winter my attraction to the relaxation I get from Cubans has grown as well as the nod from the before mentioned women to smoke indoors when everybody has gone to bed (I have an air purifier in the rec room). Now that summer has arrived I find the nuances found in a good cigar diluted by smoking outside. Am I alone?

Am I alone? personally, i prefer indoor, only because i find it burns better, more evenly and i end up enjoying the smoke more.... i can smell the smoke and therefore taste it more, however i dont find that the taste of the cigar is different outside....
El Presidente Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I grew up smoking cigars outdoors given that lounges and cigar bars are not really part of our culture. Even our houses are designed (due to climate) for outdoor living...big verandahs, patio's etc. Thankfully we have a climate that accomodates. Taking the above into account, I forgive a crooked burn and minor irritations. I don't however find that the flavour diminishes. A bottle of wine, a book or some good friends over for a BBQ really enhances the experience. The perfect blue sky that we have for 280 + days of the year also helps
mgillett Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I probably prefer indoors but 99% are smoked outdoors due to children/wife being inside.
dogbreath Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Due to our subtropical climate, always smoke outside usually on the porch.
cigarnv Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I find the outdoors hard to beat even though I can smoke indoors. I find the uneven burn a small price to pay for being outside. I personally feel cigars taste better in an environment where the surrounding air is not saturated with smoke as one finds outdoors. JMO
Smokin Bulldog Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 All of my hobbies are based outdoors and that is where I relax. So Outdoors
Havana Joe Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I prefer indoors, although that doesn't happen often. If I have a good smoke that I plan on smoking, I'll wait until I can smoke it indoors so that I get the full enjoymeny of it. So I agree w/ you there.
Colt45 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I prefer outdoors, though during winter, I definately wish I had a smoking room.
cigardawg Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 During the spring/fall/summer, I usually smoke outdoors. I only get diminished tastes if it is very windy outside. Then I just go to the smoking room or the screen porch (which is sheltered). In the winter, I smoke indoors. If there is a cigar that I am particularly wanting to try, I just find the stillest place that I can. To me, the big thing is air movement. A little if OK, a lot is unacceptable.

To smoke outdoors regularly the only thing I would need would be my lazyboy. Oh and I would need my tv and my remote control. That is all I would need except my a/c and no skeeters. To paraphrase Navin R Johnson :-D
Mel Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I find it is not about indoors or outdoors but but the air movement aroung me. If the smoke is carried away to quickly by air movement then the pleasure/aroma apreciation is decreased. It must not be to hot or cold either and the seating should be comfortable. There is more to smoking than inside or out.
jadawin Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I usually smoke inside, just hanging in my bedroom in my apartment. I started smoking inside because of the long winters here and i get really bored just sitting outside my apt. building, haha. Ill smoke outside when grilling out doing something, but if im just by myself, im sitting right here infront of my computer where i dont have to deal with wind or being bored.

I find sitting on my comfy sofa, watching boob tube and smoking a good cigar to be so relaxing that I've given up (most of:-) my other vices lol. When golfing or doing outdoor activities, I generally reach for a NC.
JOE.M. Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I also prefer the outdoors when I smoke; I sit on my second floor deck and look out on the southern track of the Rocky Mountains. Sundown is amazing with a cold Heineken and a great cigar
Vetteman Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I can smoke in my house but rarely do. I enjoy smoking outside much more.
harwellplant Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 its always about the temperature, regardless of indoor or out.

Outside on a still warm summer night is fine, though.
Taino Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I'm an outside smoker don't really enjoy smoking inside.
Van55 Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 A very large majority of my own smoking is in my detached garage in which I have set up cable TV and DVD. There's something about the ability to blow smokerings and watch and smell the smoke as it wafts gently upward to the rafters.... As a solitary experience, I prefer that kind of indoor environment. With a group, I find that my enjoyment is diminished just a bit if the air is filled with smoke from several cigars going at once without adequate ventilation.
Lorax429 Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 If I'm smoking at home I'm smoking outside. Two reasons. One the wife doesn't want me smoking inside. Two I don't want to because I rather the house not smell like cigars. One day I hope to have a house with a room I can turn into a smoking room but for now outside is ok with me.
stevejb Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 I smoke outdoors. Always great weather here in Vegas, so I can enjoy a nice cigar and work on my tan at the same time.
cvm4 Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 I'd smoke indoors if I had a room just for myself to smoke in.
bgoodz Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Weather related, nice warm weather I smoke out on the deck. During winter or cold overcast days I some indoors. Recently I have converted one of the bedrooms to a smoking room. Installed a bathroom exhaust fan coupled with a Csonka Smoker Cloaker and even Miss Nose can't detect it :-D which astounded me.
PorscheC4S Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 I enjoy smoking outdoors if the wind is mild and the temp is not too high and the sun is shining (while I'm in the shade). I sometimes smoke while golfing. However, I usually smoke indoors. I really enjoy seeing the smoke, that I exhale, floating across the room. I also enjoy the ambient smells that most good cigars contribute to the rooms air. I enjoy the room in which I smoke, black leather sofa, plasma t.v., well ventilated, just very comfortable and mood condusive. It's funny to think that indoor smoking of both cigarettes and cigars in the good old days was not only allowed, but the norm. Although I can't blame a non smoker for disliking the smell in a restaurant or bar, it is the owners inalienable right to decide the establishments stand on smoking, just as the employees and patrons have the right to go elsewhere. Free market forces should, and if left alone will, determine what the owner should decide. Here, in many U.S. cities and states, political forces are trying, and often succeeding, to replace the aggregate will of individuals with what is seen as the "right thing to do", while ignoring or evading the most important sense of the word right. That autonomy which an individual holds inherently, which is not subject to the whims of a group, no matter how large or how loud.
