tacmedic Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 No box code, this was a gifted stick.... Very dark and silky wrapper with minimal veins and perfect, seamless construction. The head of the cigar had that nice flat cuban look and feel to it, with a perfect triple cap that took the cutter well. No soft spots, hefty in the hand with just a touch of box press to it. The draw was outstanding, not too loose or tight. The cigar took to flame perfectly with the inital flavors being pure tobacco, cedar and leather. The cigar produced loads of rich creamy smoke and had a good medium long finish on the palate. The flavor turned a little spicy and had coffee notes and good earthy notes throughtout the second third, but did seem to mellow a little much, I really don't know the age on this, but seems a little young. With the dominate tobacco flavors initially it seemed the cigar wasn't going to be very complex, but at the end of the first third all that changed and it became very complex and into the second and last third the flavors were really pronounced with coffee and earthy notes dominating, but also with a hint of chocolate. The cigar burned very nicely, without need of relight or touching up, it didn't burn razor sharp, but self corrected quickly. The ash seemed a little flakey, but held on for close to an inch without difficulty. The finish on the cigar really got longer as it progressed and the spiciness returned during the last third. I nubbed this until it got to hot to hold any longer, and then didn't want to put it down. This is the type flavor profile that I want in a cigar and if you haven't tried these, you should really seek them out. This is definately a box worthy smoke and would rate at 90-91 in my opinion.

Lorax429 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Nice review bro. I have one of these that was gifted to me. Looking forward to a nice Sunday evening to enjoy it.
ehdg Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Very nice review in fact one of my favorite smokes. I'm a big VR fan and think very highly of these and the Unico's in fact!!
cigardawg Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Great review! Thanks. I do not smoke a lot of Vegas Robainas, but the ones that I have had have all been very good. IMHO, the VR Famosos is the best young-smoking robusto on the market. I find them to be very tastey fresh or with minimal age.
El Presidente Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 great review I thoroughly enjoy this cigar. The biggest problem I find when reaching for a Robusto is...Which One? Ini Mini Mine mo....Rass Cohiba d4 or Hoyo to go?

seadub Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Great review Tacmedic! The VR Famosos is one of my favorites. I've never been disappointed with this cigar!
Ginseng Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Nice review! These are one of Strayvector's favorite recent smokes, perhaps he'll chime in as well. Wilkey
idesign Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 I smoked a pretty damn good one last night, nice review...... I only have one left, maybe you should send me a few.....;-)
Tampa1257 Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Nice review, and a cigar that I love. Thanks for sharing!

dogbreath Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Everyone seems to love these, but I guess I'm the lone dissenter here. I like everything about the cigar except for the taste. Been working on a box of 02's for the last three years and they haven't come around. To me they have a light peppery taste with leather undertones, however bitter and somewhat harsh throughout. Since all the ones I've tried were out of the same box, maybe it's a bad lot.

I love these cigars. They've turned into one of my daily smokes. Great out of the box and gives me so much satisfaction that I can actually leave my PSP2 alone so that they can get some age on them.
Cigarflip Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 The review you did seems like the cigar is aged. A couple of years ago, 97 vintage was readily available and I loved them so much I bought 2 boxes. Now I'm hanging on for dear life so I won't crack the remaining box.

Yup, them '97's are almost too good to smoke! What a firecracker finish.
