Ken Gargett Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 there has been a query from overseas from a particularly humid part of the planet (has he never been to qld?) from someone who is having problems controlling the humidity in his humidor - it is way too much. rumours have it that there is a product, most likely in the usa, that can help. suggestions to dump the 'dor or smoke quickly are helpful - not. any assistance gratefully accepted (no doubt rob will be giving out a prize to the best answer on his return).
CIGARHead Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Ken... I have found a few things that may be of help. I found 2 options(there could be more, but this is what I found) One way would be to get a Dehumidification Unit for the room in which the humidor is. They have some that are reasonably priced and small. Here is one that I found: [link=http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?icatid=4638&stk_code=whiad40usr&svbname=293 ]Link[/link] Also while browsing around I found this company that has essentially a temp/humidity alarm system that you mount inside the humidor. Its called the Habitat Monitor. External devices such as the Dehumidifier mentioned above can be control to come on when humidity reaches unnacceptable. (this is what I am understanding while reading the description..) I will send this comany an email for the raw details and get back with you. Until then, here is that link: [link=http://www.habitatmonitor.com/products.htm#Humid]Link[/link] I dont know if any of this is what you are looking for, but hey give me a break it's early in the a.m. and haven't had my coffee and Monte 4 yet Edit: I also just found this tiny Dehumidifier. So small you can "carry it in one hand"...I suppose this would be usefull while holding your overly-humidified CoRo in the other hand:-D [link=http://www.totalvac.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=totalvac&Product_Code=WHD-MW&Category_Code=dehumidifier]Link[/link]
lfg2nrg Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 The use of humidity beads will do this. Normally you add water to the beads to keep the humidity at 65% but you can put dry beads in the humidor and they will absorb humidity bringing it down to 65%. When the beads are saturated take them out and dry them (hair dryer works) then put them back in the humidor. http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/beads_1.html
CIGARHead Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I didnt know the humidity beads achieved dehumidifying...nice to know, ya learn something new everaday:ok:
Ken Gargett Posted June 22, 2005 Author Posted June 22, 2005 guys many thanks for this. the first lady will no doubt be in action making our friend happy (cigar-wise, at least).
WFZone Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Gang: I agree that beads are the way to go. In the U.S. Heartfelt Industry is the source. For those abroad take a look at the link and you will get more information....Hope it helps. www.fuji-silysia.com This company is located in Japan and is the maker of the beads. There distribution chain is pretty small.
Colt45 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Another possible option is Boveda by Humidipak. It is a 2 way humidification pack that is available in three different RHs. I've used the original humidipak packets with good reults. The downside would be that they need to be replaced approximately every ninety days, and that they recommend three packets per 100 cigars.
argon345 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I third or fourth the suggestion, Beads are the way to go!!!
habanohal Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 » I third or fourth the suggestion, Beads are the way to go!!! I have a 6' cabinet which holds 3000 gars. it being very warm here ...like today 102 degrees, I keep my humi on lower level of house were it stays at 69 degrees always. I have a cigar oasis 2 running the humidity and for 11 days now it has been turned off and still a constant 68-70.01 rh. I hooked up some little computer fans to keep aie circulateing, but I cant get it to drop below %68. But all smoke well right now so Dropping it to %66 isnt a big worry to me , for what I hear from alot of forum members is that Cubans smoke and taste the best at %66.
