just when you thought that communism was dead...

spoke to my mate in havana about the idea and this was his response. so no need to start saving just yet, guys.

"I want you to know that is a common practice in some US based cigar companies. I had the opportunity to try one made in Tampa (I think it was Reserva de Silvio) and despite the differences in flavour, strength and sweet, (ain’t gonna talk about it now) one could say the cigar wasn’t bad at all, I mean the construction was very good, it burned evenly, not much aroma but great appearance and good presentation in a Cabinet. I must say the idea of making a Roller’s Reserve is not wrong at all but always showing respect for the consistency of the very blend of the brand they are making. At the end, it’s only the skilfulness what differences one cigar from another, but I don’t think discriminating other rollers would work. It has to be done with special care. Some rollers could feel some disagreement/disillusion by not being considered to integrate such elite and starting to feel unhappy. That’s exactly what we don’t want to happen. It’s only my opinion, but I prefer happy workers. See, most rollers in the entire country are really proud of making different and complicated sizes, and the quality of their productions as well. So they can be particularly affected by not being chosen. You know there is sort of a little competition in dexterity, quality, experience, love, and pride. It’s a matter of self esteem for rollers that you can hardly find anywhere else. It’s another feature of Cuban cigars (Habanos) that are simply charged with so many emotions that anyone can feel it. A step like this has to be seen from every angle and the conception as a whole, to not affect important stages at the production and hurt people’s feelings. You could express more or less agreement on this idea, but I’m just being me.

The roller’s reserve…hmmm…I’ve heard about that years ago, but it remained as a project. Maybe, should be implemented somehow in the years to come but as I told you, with care. Maybe three or four of our very, very skilled and outstanding rollers that anyone can’t match their ability in doing the most complicated sizes and then starting with a new line…

Anyway I’m not the one to decide what the Co is going to do next but I hope some day, some opinions (including mine) should be considered more often.

Best of luck"
