Hard question.

I can tell from the aroma that they are not ready to smoke yet.

Interestingly they appear to have used the older Criollo 98 wrapper (which based on the 7 year cycle, this might be the lastof it).

Which one? !LOL! I am an Oficio's type of man. However the big Torps are awesome.

Hey Rob, thanks for the info!!

Could you fill me in a bit more on the Criollo 98 wrapper?? Not to sure what this is...

Thanks!!

Oh and those Oficio's look damn nice and they are the perfect size!!:hungry:

got a chance to try a Merallis this weekend.. very nice guys! it has that really really strong barnyard smell and taste. Very unique I can't compare it to anything on the market right now. A buddy of mine says it reminds him of the older pre 95 habanos..

We are working on an article currently re wrappers used on cigars since 1998. Tobacco strains have a 7 year lifespan in Cuba before they are replaced by a new strain. This continuous evolution minimises the chances of disease taking hold. At any one time, there can be 3-4 strains being grown across Cuba.

Criollo 98 in the main did not produce the most attractive of wappers. While generally Colorado brown, it could also have a tinge of green. It was however thin and flavoursome and one of my favourite wrapper types on any cigar to the extent that I seek it out.

Simply a beautiful thing. I wish I was in a position to move forward with a box of these, yet that is not a possibility. Maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to smoke one, but if not I know those that will, will certainly enjoy them.
