Wow, nice fish!

I'm going on a cruise in November and this is a likely excursion for me:

Experience a personalized fly-fishing expedition in this exclusive corner of the world.

On this excursion you will:

-Board a van for a 55-minute ride south towards Costa de Cocos.

-Board a 23 ft. Mexican Ponga, fully equipped with 2 fly fishing rods, 2 light tackle spin reel rods, soft drinks, water, beer, snacks and VHF radio.

-Join your bilingual certified fly-fishing guide and another guest on this VIP adventure (only 2 guests allowed per Ponga).

-Travel through the Bacalar Channels, once used by the Mayan Indians and pirates, now a sanctuary for fish and birds.

-Fish the channels and flats for Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Snapper and Snook.

-Learn, from your guide, the proper techniques to catch and release these fish.

-Head back to your van for transportation to your ship after four exhilarating hours.

It's gonna cost me, but to catch a bone, permit or tarpon. . . I'M IN!

Wow, beaqutiful fish. I do alot of fly fishing, but I have never done salt water fly fishing; mainly trout. If I can figure out how to scan the picture, I will show you guys a picture of the 15 lb, 2 oz rainbow trout I caught back in 1993 on a #6 green wooly bugger I tied myself.

I have a few permits on my catch list, lovely fish to have on a fly hope to try to do tarpoon this year... but I have to say at the end of the day trout is my favourite.

Trout fishing (on fly) is BY FAR my favorite fishing. I love deep sea fishing for the big stuff - but there is something to be said for a quite day on the stream.

That is a Yucatan permit. Saltwater flats fishing is more akin to big game hunting than classic trout fishing on a small stream. The fish are always moving. You must spot, stalk, and present. The permit is the most elusive and challenging of all the flats dwellers - by far. Spot, stalk, and spook one for yourself and you will become addicted. And once you get one, that is all you will want to do. I guarantee it.

Oh, and for every permit you caatch you must smoke a celebratory cigar. After this permit, it was a Siglo VI.
