cigardawg Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 This was the second Habanos that I smoked over the long weekend. One of my favorite marevas, here are my thoughts: Punch Royal Selection No. 12 (URL FEB02, REVISADO 08/04) This was a nice dark, oily cigar. Darker than the other RS12s that I have. There was a single significant vein running down the cigar. The seams were almost invisible and the triple-flagged cap was well applied. The wrapper was of a chocolate-brown hue. The pre-light nose was earthy and peaty with a hint of sweetness. The pre-light draw was just about right. I applied the torch to the foot and toasted the end. I then took a couple of puffs and viola, the cigar was lit. The draw opened up a bit and the smoke production was great. Each puff was rewarded with mouthfuls of thick, rich smoke. The burn was even throughout the smoking experience. The ash was dark gray and a bit flakey. The cigar burned cool down to a nub. Very pleasant cigar to smoke. The taste, well, let's just say it was "punchy." You know what I mean, there was this great balance of earth and some wood tempered with just the right amount of sweetness. The cigar was medium-to-full bodied and started out heavy on the earth. After about a quarter, the wood increased to balance out the earth. The sweetness was there always, just in varying degrees. This was an extremely flavorful cigar. It's no wonder this is one of my top three petite coronas. Burned well, tasted great...nothing to complain about. I give this one a firm A (92-94).
cigardawg Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 » What exactly is "revisado?" » » Wilkey Well, I had to ask that same question when I saw it on the box. According to my information, a REVISADO box is one that has essentially been "re-inspected" by Habanos SA before leaving Cuba. Evidently they do this with some older stock as an additional level of quality control. Please, if this is in anyway incorrect, enlighten me. Like I said, I had to ask too.:-P

Also, I've heard the same thing about revisado boxes.
Thurm15 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Oh Yeah!!!! The Punch RS 12 is my favorite PC. Nice Review!

I wish the box of BoliCG I got was revisado. The cover was almost falling off and the inner flap of paper was also hanging by a shred. The cigars seemed fine but I just can't believe such a box made it out of Cuba. Wilkey
greenpimp Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Well done, succinct review. This cigar is on my short list. I love PCs and am really diggin the Punch marca lately.
Cigarflip Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I love this cigar. Prolly the strongest of the Punch marca.
shrink Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Excellent and enticing review, Dawg. This is a Punch that may be worth a purchase. Can anyone compare it to the Petit Corona del Punch, which I find an excellent mareva? I've heard the 12 needs more time to come around.

Like 'flip said, I have found this to be the strongest of the Punch marca with the possible exception of the SS#2. It is kind of a toss up. That said, it does take a little longer to come around. I am smoking on a box from 01 that is great. I tried the 02 just because. Same good flavors, just not as refined. The petit corona del punch just doesn't have, well, as much "punch.":-P

Both are from 98 and I can tell you that the difference is night and day.
shrink Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I have compared the Petit Corona Del Punch with the RS12. Both are from 98 and I can tell you that the difference is night and day. I assume this means that you prefer the RS12. My favorite Punch is the SS2, followed by the Monarca and then the RS11. I keep these in stock. I was also gifted an aged SS1 and an aged PCdP, both of which I enjoyed. The RS12 sounds like a winner. ;-) Thanks for the info.
