Odd. My guess is it's a custom job. The screws entering the box IMO is the giveaway. Overall kinda shoddy craftsmanship.

Agreed. I have only the vaguest memory of having seen one such box, back in the late 1990's or early 2000's, at Tony Hyman's house. I do not recall it having any metal hardware or holes. I don't think it had a little drawer either, but it's been awhile and my memory might not be perfect. It definitely did not have screws jutting into it.
