El Presidente Posted May 18 Posted May 18 This series seeks to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy. Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts. This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world. To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well! Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor) 4-6 (Average to good) 7-10 (very good to excellent) Use the Poll. You are more than free to comment away Today: Partagas Serie D Number 6 (50 × 90mm 3½ ") The bad? $16-$17 USD for a 3 1/2 inch cigar. They call it a Petit Robusto...stretching it. The good? To my mind, this is perhaps the finest blend in the Partagas Line-up. You smoke a Partagas Serie D No 6 and you wish it was 3 inches longer. This is a cigar that is rich with a capital "R". Sweet earth, quality espresso, roasted nuts. This is a 35 minute cigar for me and it comes out of the gate like a prize bull in the arena. If this cigar was $7-$8, I would have them stocked up in the 100's. The D6 is testament to the brilliance of Cuban tobacco. Partagas Serie D Number 6. Let us know your thoughts!
Popular Post westg Posted May 18 Popular Post Posted May 18 Everything other than this has fallen into the 7- 10 categories for me. Too small for me now and I hardly see the point in smoking them. 6
Li Bai Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Though I very much liked the ones I've smoked, it falls on the same category as the Shorts which is one of my top 5 CCs. Considering the price on these, the comparison is too brutal to even consider it being humidor worthy... 4
Mike Mecklenburg Posted May 18 Posted May 18 These are just ok for me maybe because I get to much of a pepper/spice flavor that reminds me of the average New World cigar. Construction and draw are always on point. I would still buy a single or two to keep around for a short smoke after a BBQ, but not a box. 4
JohnS Posted May 18 Posted May 18 I'd have to say that I did enjoy the RAE Dic 2014 box that I had purchased in 2015 and waited three years to open in 2018. I think that peculiarly-packaged semi-boîte nature 20-count box was gone in a little over 12 months. I did hand out about one-third of the box (i.e seven cigars) for friends to try. Later on, in 2022 (a few months before Cigarmageddon in the middle of that year) I acquired two small aluminium pack of 5 cigars because they were relatively well-priced at the time. I still have two cigars left (again I handed out two of these for my son to enjoy), but I don't envisage that I will acquire anymore due to the opportunity cost. (In other words, I'll save my funds for something else Habanos-wise that I really, really want!). Looking back on those nineteen Partagas Serie D No.6s that I've smoked since 2018, I've rated sixteen of them as above average to excellent. The other three were okay or average. So for me, they ones I've has have been flavoursome and consistent in terms of construction too. 4
ha_banos Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Like Mike said. I've only had a handful of these split across 3 occasions and found them too spicy with that pepper that makes them too harsh for me. Maybe I've under sampled? I'll leave it to you good folk to advise the punters. At 11-12£ each they still seem ok from the perspective of over here sadly. They retail locally for 30£ each here. Certainly a NFW at that price 😂 lol I guess it's that cigar you can hand out, while smoking a Lusi oneself and just have a big knowing grin about it all. That'll stop them asking for a cigar again. 2 2
