A few months ago, Palio announced a new, updated redesign of their Tabletop Cutter. It piqued my interest because firstly, I have the previous version they released in 2018 (which is quite different) and secondly, this new version requires the cut of the cigar to be done at the side of the cutter, not the top.

What do you think? I realise that owning a Tabletop Cutter is not as ubiquitous amongst cigar enthusiasts as owning a normal cutter is, but even so, feel free to share your thoughts on the redesign. Why did Palio make so radical a change I wonder?

Quality Importers Announces Redesigned Palió Quad Tabletop Cutter

January 20, 2026 - Brooks Whittington

Quality Importers has announced a new version of its largest cutter.

Like the original, the updated Palió Quad Tabletop Cutter is a tabletop cutter designed with four integrated cutting options arranged in a row along the front of the base: two straight cutters and two v-cutters. However, while the original cutter used a lever action to make the cut, the new version requires the user to push down on the top of the cutter. Each cutter features two different size openings for both a straight and v-cut: 52 and 60 ring gauge, though the company says the larger opening can cut cigars up to 64-ring gauge.

A spring-loaded release opens the cutter to reveal all four blade options, and it is closed by simply pressing down on the large handle. In addition, the cutter is designed with a rubber pad on the bottom to prevent it from moving while in use and a large trimmings reservoir.

The Palió Quad Tabletop Cutter is priced at $249.99 and Quality Importers expects to ship by the end of Q1 2026.

“The Palió Quad Tabletop Cutter combines the heritage of Palió modern design with functional versatility,” said Danilo Faulin, brand manager for Palió, in a press release. “Our goal was to create a second-generation Palió Quad Cutter by integrating the blades into a single, spring-loaded handle that engages effortlessly with a simple downward press— allowing you to make a clean cut with one hand while holding your cigar steady with the other.”

This is the second version of a quad tabletop cutter released by Quality Importers under its Palió brand. In 2018, the company shipped the original Table QUAD Cutter by Palío, pictured above.

There are some notable differences between the two:

  • The original cutter used a pull-down lever mechanism, whereas the updated version is just a push-down down
  • The location of the cutting holes has moved from the top to the side of the cutter
  • The ordering of the blade openings is different, and the size of one blade has changed. The older model offered 52- and 58-ring gauge v-cutter options, whereas the new one features 52- and 60-ring gauge
  • Upon introduction, the price of the original cutter was just $125, though it has likely increased over time.

The new version should last longer with its simpler design. I liked the original but it didn’t last very long because the tiny gears fell apart.

Seems a bit pricey, no?

Definitely too pricey.  Especially when this is $100 less:

I’m intrigued. Been looking for a tabletop V-Cutter. Will be interested to see what the reviews are on this one. Don’t think I’d pay over $150 though.

It's undeniable that the price on this redesign has risen since the first iteration release. I don't think I paid even anywhere near $AU125 for it.
