Tony Robertson - The Sun 2 min read March 20, 2026 - 9:13AM Cult football hero stuns with outrageous interview Football fans were left stunned after a promotion hero smoked a cigar, downed a beer and swore through a wild interview. Dutch side ADO Den Haag were celebrating a return to the Eredivisie for the first time since 2021 following a 1-0 win over Jong FC Utrecht. But it was centre-back Diogo Tomas who stole the show during a barmy post-match chat with ESPN Netherlands. The 28-year-old, who has been a pillar of the promotion campaign, refused to let a little thing like “media duties” get in the way of his party. The Finn wore sunglasses, puffed on a cigar and chugged a can of beer during the interview. Pitch-invading fans rushed to grab selfies with the cult hero as he was asked if he agreed he was now a popular man. “Yeah, I am who I am,” a cool Tomas replied. But Tomas will be somewhere,” he said. Tomas smoked his cigar and smiled at people off camera as the reporter pressed him on whether it might be at Den Haag. He turned back to the reporter and used some explicit language in his response. “Yeah anything is possible,” he said. “I’ve loved my time here. I love these guys. “I would f***ing go to war with these guys.” The clip went viral, with one fan saying: “Could totally play the lead in some mafia movie.” A second said: “Temu Zlatan.” A third added: “Finally a personality for a change instead of all those media-trained dudes.” Another said: “Celebrating a promotion by finishing off a huge cigar, a beer and talking about himself in the third person. Two minutes ago he didn’t know who Diogo Tomas was and now he’s my favourite player.” A fifth said: “Aura.” Tomas joined Den Haag in 2024, and now wears the captain’s armband. He has also made four appearances for the Finland national team. 4 1
