Popular Post StoagieSnape Posted February 14 Popular Post Posted February 14 I saw this earlier. Did it rub anyone else the wrong way that there was zero mention of the state of the country and well-being of the workers and families of Cuba? I know the festival has its "prestige" and standards of excellence to uphold, but I would have hoped its priority would have included "preserving and allocating resources that are critical to the livelihood of our people and the future of Cuba." Is it just me? 7 1

Is it just me? I agree with you but I certainly wasn’t surprised. I think everyone knows the people are of no concern to them, so no need to lie about it. 2
Popular Post LaoFan Posted February 14 Author Popular Post Posted February 14 Most of the people with the most to say have never touched Cuba. Not saying I'm an expert, but I've at least been there. I have people that I would call 'family'. I've brought them things they need. I ask them...1v1...what do you need? How can I make your life better? I listened to Jasim's (first time) live stream today...he's been there too. He has friends there. He talked emotionally about wanting to help them. I promise you he is doing more for any Cuban than Twitter warriors ragebaiting on the topic of the day. This topic is not as cut and dry as you dream it to be. Be open minded. Think about the people...not the headline. You'll see things a lot more clearly. I have no dog in the fight. I don't want any outcome other than my friends being happier. 11 1

JohnnyO Posted February 15 Posted February 15 LatAm formerly known as LanChile is dropping out of Cuba. They had 3 weekly flights from Lima, Peru and will be sending empty planes to bring passengers back. The last flight is 3/7. John 3 1 1
Popular Post JohnnyO Posted February 16 Popular Post Posted February 16 Gasoline is now 4000cup/liter or $8 USD/liter or $30.24/gallon on the streets of Havana. The government run yellow taxis are still getting gas but at a slower more controlled pace, 20 liters at a time. Rides that used to be $5 are now $20-25. The funny thing is that consumer goods have not gone up much in price and the cup has not devalued at a rate parallel to the gasoline. The streets are empty. They want you at home with a bottle of rum. John 11
JohnnyO Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Taxi rides from the airport that are officially $25, were $30 last week. Now they are $40-$50. Wouldn't be surprised if they start using horse and carriage. 2 5
JohnnyO Posted February 18 Posted February 18 There was a bus Transtur/Circuitos Aeropuerto-Havana (Airport-Havana Circuit) that went from the airport in 3 different routes: Miramar, Vedado, Central Havana for $5 every hour to T3. I am looking into it but anyone know if its still running? AI says its still running and that you can buy tickets on the bus, Cubacan, Cubatur, Havanatur, Ecotur offices. 2
Popular Post JohnnyO Posted February 23 Popular Post Posted February 23 Taxis this weekend at the airport were as high as $80 to Havana, although Josh (Lao Fan) said he got on for $30+$5 tip. Many drivers of the state run yellow taxis have been waiting for gas for a week. But there were plenty of drivers at the airport. Gasoline ranged between 3000cup and 5000cup/liter, or $6-$10. There was hardly any trucks on the road spewing diesel fumes. Saw a lot of electric bikes and trikes, all were loaded with passengers. Older cars, Ladas and modern cars were all running but less. The rental cars are having to park in line overnight by the gas station to get their 20 liters on 33 Ave and 42 St (Playa). Airport was semi-full, mostly from passengers trying to get out. The most annoying thing is they are burning the garbage that is piled up on street corners. Some say it is in protest, others say its just someone pissed off. Oh, and a million flies come with it.
