Ken Gargett Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago wondering if anyone else does the daily wordle puzzle in the NYT? my sisters put me on to it. a bit of fun, does not take long and a good way to get the brain working. record for me is 99 days. missing the 100th seriously pissed me off. back to 85 but suspect they will stuff me again on 100. never got it in one guess (a reasonable number of two guesses, though most take morre - you get up to six before you are out) but i know a couple of people who have. but today, not sure if i am pissed or embarrassed. for those who don't know it, you need to ascertain their five letter word each day. this morning, i go from the cigar forum to the game. now, what would be a good five letter word. i start with decoy or something like that. bugger me, turns out to be (and spoiler alert) cigar. got it within the limit but feel like an idiot. if ever i should have got it in one... 3 1
ryre Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Love wordle. I never got it in one guess either. I recommend NYT Connections, too. There are sixteen words that you have to put in groups of four unknown categories/ themes. 2
LizardGizmo Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I do it daily - my wife is very competitive. She also has me doing Crossplay now, which is a 1v1 scrabble type game they launched last week. I always start with the same starter word though. 1
KRunch61 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Wordle and Connections are both fun. (I did get Wordle in one once.) Have you tried Pips yet? It’s the one with the dominos. Sometimes the medium level takes longer than the hard! 1

And is their new game any fun?

Step your game up, brutha. Wordle and Connections with my morning coffee is my daily “wake your brain up” ritual. Never in one, nearly 20 in two. Does anyone else get pissed when they don’t get it in three, or am I just special? My current goal is to bring my 3- and 4- guess numbers to equilibrium. I’m about 15 or so off. 1 1

I’m about 15 or so off. three is doing well, four is verging on a fail but an acceptable pass, five is embarrassing and six mortifying. but things happen. my three's were ahead of the five's until recently. now a few behind. like my two's to equal six's but i don't see that happening. my four's lead the way. my aim is to get to the 100 in a row. missing at 99 still irks. currently 84. will try some of these new ones as well. 1
djmatty Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago When I first started playing and was adamant about the streak, I had made the mistake of doing Wordle at the end of the day. So I’ve had many a streak lost by either falling asleep, forgetting while out late or while traveling. Longest streak was in the 60s (I was using my wife’s NYT account at the time for which she recently upgraded or enabled to a family account so we all can play). A propos, the first Wordle was “cigar”.
ImTripN2 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Been a Wordle player for quite a while now, but never signed up and have no idea of how long my win streak is. I used to start with 'pious' then 'alert', but lately I've been starting with 'adieu' and go from there. Another good series of games are Quordle / Octordle.
chasy Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago There are a few settings that you can tweak to make it harder/easier. I play on hard. Have done 200+ streak. Starter is Orate.

Ruggerpgh99 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I do it daily, good start to the morning. I started with Share, until that was the word, so I have gotten it in one, once. Now I start with Shale.
Rhod Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago So this post enticed me to start playing it again. Unbelievably ironic what the answer is today...🤣

The main tweak is to require you to use any letter that you have identified as being in the word. Ie: you can't guess STEAK (identify that E is in the word) and then guess FLUID. You would be required to use E in every subsequent guess. I don't think it makes a huge difference except that it makes finding obscure words harder.
NYGuido Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Thanks to this thread, I got Wordle in 1 for the first time ever 1
Capn_Jackson Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Love me some Wordle, although I don’t do it every day. After guessing the Wordle, I go on and do Quordle, where you have to guess four words, using the same guess word. You have 8 or 9 chances. Then I go on to Octordle, where you’ve got to get 8 words. 13 guesses I think.
