Me crossing the finish line at the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope last September. Terry Fox is my hero. That was a 13km run. I raised just under $10K for that run.

Had many "business associates" who didn't know I lost the weight. I'm not on social media. No "before" and "after" bullshit. So they thought "no way" that I was completing that run. $10K raised and a personal best later, it was the proudest moment of my entire life.

The run was on the 13km Confederation bridge that connects mainland New Brunswick with Prince Edward Island, here in Canada. What an experience!

And that looks like pose running technique. Another pointer for the heavier types who might experience impact issues.

Oh, lots to do with both of those things! Diet wise, I didn't follow anything but 500 calorie deficit a day. But nothing specific, just a 3500 reduction a week (1lbs a week loss from that).

Alcohol wise I quit drinking beer. Moved to vodka cocktails (yes, boring, but better than water).

Biggest thing for me, in my mid 40s, was discovering exercising. I was so overweight. I shouldn't have been able to exercise. But I wanted to. I needed to. So I started walking. When I could walk 5km without stopping, I tried jogging a bit (0.5km jog, 4.5km walk). I did that until I could jog 5km without stopping (that took about a year). But once that happened, there was no stopping me. From not being able to climb stairs, I ran three half marathons (with the first when I was still over 100 kgs).

I realized after a lifetime of being overweight, the freedom of running was something I never knew I'd love. It's, by far, my favourite thing in life. I can run for multiple hours without stopping. Sure, I'm not fast. But I love it. That's what's keeping my weight off.

Lots of people ask how I did it. When they find out it wasn't a secret diet, nor medication, rather, hard work and exercise, I quickly lose their attention.

I want to get a full marathon in before June of this year, when I turn 46. We'll see. I signed up for one April 12th. :)

Dude that’s awesome and good for you. Very few people know how hard what you accomplished is. A great example of taking control of a situation. Bravo.
