Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua. Anyone watching?

Well it might as well be. Not a Joshua fan. Is it even boxing or a glorified slapping contest labelled as boxing entertainment? If Jake Paul wins it will have a massive negative impact for boxing and a massive discredit to Joshua's stock as a boxer. I will have a look. Not even sure who I am going for.  Your thoughts?

Don’t know if @JPark3 saw this last night but i’m certain he would’ve got a kick out of it! As for “spectacle fights,” I had more enjoyment watching the McGregor/Mayweather fight; more actual boxing between the two opponents.

Is anyone else as sick of this fiasco as I am? I grew up watching Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler and Tyson. I am a huge fan of old school boxing, Ali, Frazier, Ernest Shavers, Foreman. It is a travesty what the sport has become.

100% @Ford2112 What Jake Paul is has nothing to do with boxing. He is, however, a marketing genius. The “Hulkamania” outfit last night?! I grew up in Michigan, and some of the biggest fights when I was coming up were between Tommy Hearns and “marvelous” Marvin Hagler. These “boxing matches” are literally nothing more than cash grabs. Even Tyson admitted later that were he not “high,” he would not have agreed to fight Jake Paul.

Pure spectacle akin to WWE except wrestling doesn't claim to truly be competitive. Joshua did a worse job playing to the script than Tyson. Never seen so many intentional shoulder punches in my life.

I grew up watching those boxers too. They were the ultimate athletes, in my view. These days, I guess there's a reason why my son would rather watch MMA special events with his friends (because that where today's ultimate athletes are).

I loved K1 and UFC in its early days, not so much today.

I came across a documentary a few years back, Dana White and many others were talking about how it all begun with Bruce Lee and how proud he would be if he were still alive....

I don't mean to be controversial and to each his own but it's all BS, Sijo Bruce Lee was a martial artist and martial arts are about life and death, they never had nothing to do with sports. I don't enjoy seeing those guys trash talking and I definitely don't enjoy watching someone getting 3-4 punches in the head while he's already lying unconscious. 

Those guys are incredible fighters/athletes for sure but what they do in that octagon sucks, I don't see much honor or respect there anymore. My two cents...

Although I will say the real Wild West was Pride…they had about 5 years where it was pure insanity. Not fighting under unified rules and a roster of maniacs and killers - Wanderlei, Crocop, Rampage, Hendo…lucky to have been able to witness it because nothing like that will ever happen again.

Loved those early days of the UFC when the fighters had to go through like five fights, in the same day, in order to be the champion! Imagine today’s UFC fighters having to do that…🫣

To me Fedor is the best ever and Bas is the real OG along with Royce.

Hearns Leonard 2 was one the best ever bouts in my opinion.  Regardless of the speculation and controversy on that particular outcome.  It was just boxing ,  pure boxing at its finest.  Not hitting and holding no head clashes , low blows . Just two guys going at it for 12 rounds or was it 15. Couldn't they move , just beautiful to watch. Hagler Leonard was the same . What a spectacle.  I gave Leonard that fight.  Unfortunately Ford2112 I think those days a long .

Hagler Hearns is the greatest 1st round in boxing history.  Warriors. Can't forget Duran either. Salvador Sanchez. Ray Mancini. Lots of amazing fighters. I couldn't stand Hector Camacho!!
