This is how you justify all your cigar purchases to the spouse. 😄

Congratulations on the successful palate rehabilitation!

Hahaha, exactly! Oral athletics are fun for everyone 😂

And thank you! Not out of the woods yet, but I’m getting there one step at a time!

I’m sorry to say the easy answer is stop smoking NC cigars, they’re palate killers.

Damn. This is a shame because I LOVE Padron and Davidoff and certain other delightful New World cigars.

It’s not even close to true. I smoked only Cubans for the last five months and I’m having the same palate issue.

Aside from taking some time off which can never hurt and is probably your best move here for sure or Covid, there could be one other factor here ... temperature change here in NY this time of year sometimes effects my smoking experience. And your timing does match up right around the time we stopped having those 70 degree high days and transitioned to 40-50s/low 60 highs days.

This is a really good factor I hadn’t considered. Thank you! I’m onto a Gran Cru today, which is supposed to help re-awaken my cream and sweetness receptors. Here’s hoping it works.

Do you use an ionizer to remove smoke? That can also affect taste and smell.

I don't -- I just do a mild rinse of baking soda and water after smoking.

I had a very brief stretch following a nasty case of Covid, but it resolved relatively quickly.

My palate is now wrecked, I do know the cause however. I have a nasty respiratory virus. Grrrrrrr, so now I am on the 'Disabled List'.

Thanks man, it figures, I just received some new to me Warped Cigars that are all rested and ready to go. The Avowed and Stoic samplers are on my my purchase list for November. Curious to see how you go with the Avowed. 👍🏼

The New Dawn is AMAZING, and the Stoic Stoic is, too. Haven't tried the Avowed The Vow or the Stoic Equanimity yet, but they're sitting in my humidor.

So many good cigars out there, I am trying to limit my monthly purchases to 15 cigars to ween down some inventory. It’s not going great. Now the Fabrica5 Lonsdales sound like a masterpiece…🫣

F*****' A. Rob is going to be able to put a new wing on the factory with the way I love and want to buy Fab5 sticks. Thinking of having a dedicated Fab5 humidor, lol.

Ugh, I know. Pool have looked off the pace the entire season. I think title hopes are over, but I'm confident Slot will get it figured out.

I’m a PROUD member of the palate killer gang. Burning a Fausto as I write this, enjoying the awareness that comes along with burning strength. 🙂

I was eyeing a Tat Fausto earlier this evening but didn't have quite that much time. They are tasty. I find that the "palate killer" effect of a strong cigar really doesn't last for me, any more than eating a taco with spicy hot sauce for dinner means I can't taste subtle flavor notes in food or coffee the next day. I do refrain from smoking and also from spicy or very strong tasting food for at least 12 hours if I need to be seriously evaluating other flavor profiles the next day, but I have not found either to affect my sensory assessment ability for very long. If I do smoke a very strong cigar, especially if I try to retrohale, I may not want to smoke anything more for the evening. The strong ones feel quite filling and satisfying, like having a large portion at dinner. Sometimes it's nice to feel like I've really smoked something. Other times, I am sufficiently delighted by flavorful but much lighter bodied cigars. Really depends on my mood and on how many I have time to smoke.

Best of luck.  I’ve had COVID four times and each time my sense of smell and taste was drastically affected for about a month.

Thank you! Confirmed it wasn't Covid, thankfully. On the way back to tasting again--was able to get cream from a Connie 1 and Davidoff Signature No. 2. Trying a Davidoff WC Churchill tonight to see if any sweetness receptors are coming back online.

I get much more sweetness from some of the Fabrica 005, specifically the Suave Corta. That thing is a pure dessert confection.
