VeguerosMAN Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Shouldn't there be a punishment for American sports teams (NFL,NBA, MLB) if they finish in the bottom 3 in a season, like that of European soccer (football) league, where the bottom worst 3 teams are downgraded to the 2nd tier league in the following season while the top 3 teams from the 2nd tier league are upgraded to the 1st tier league? What's the incentive to play to win when losers remain losers for generations without any consequences?
Popular Post chris12381 Posted 17 hours ago Popular Post Posted 17 hours ago Simply because the U.S. takes a very different approach. In Europe and Latin America, poor performers get pushed down and punished, while successful lower-tier clubs can move up. Instead of punishing failure, leagues in the US have tried to create parity by giving weak teams higher draft picks, enforcing salary caps to prevent stockpiling talent, and structuring TV and revenue deals so every franchise stays competitive. Both models are aimed at keeping the league balanced, but one relies on the threat of relegation and the other on built-in guardrails. 8
BrightonCorgi Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I don't like the delegation method in those sports. There is only one real tier and lower tiers wouldn't be able to accommodate fans or have the finances to stay in the top tier. I could see each team having to pool money that gets awarded at end of seasons just like regular sports betting pools.
