Vegas Robaina Classicos (FEB98)

6.5" x 42

As far as the VR line, I've only smoked one Unicos and I'm about 2/3 through a box of Famosos. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of those that I've had, but the line is still somewhat unfamiliar to me. This cigar was unbanded and I didn't look up what it was until after I smoked as I didn't want that to influence the flavors I tasted.

The cigar felt wonderful in my hand, slightly spongy, but not too soft. Silky smooth wrapper with hardly a vein, milk chocolaty colored (lighter than my box of Famosos), beautiful triple cap. . . I clipped the cigar with my new Xikar Multitool, took a prelight draw (perfect!), toasted the foot and lit 'er up.

The initial draw offered an instant sweetness and a titch of spice. Not the spice that I often notice in young cigars, but a sweet spice (cinnamon, cloves, or allspice???).

The first third or so offered a continued sweetness (I dare say honey roasted nuts) with a slight citrus notes when exhaled through the nose. This was ever so slight and one of the first times I've noticed citrus in a cigar.

The cigar burned razor sharp, never a touch up and burned with a medium grey ash. It offered a perfect draw that was neither too tight nor too loose.

As I entered the second 1/3, I tasted flavors of coffee with the sweetness continuing. Almost like a coffee with cream and sugar. It coated my tongue and lingered on in between puffs.

As I got in the final 1/3 of the cigar, it seemed to strengthen considerably and notes of cedar became more and more apparent. Each puff produced more cedar and gained in strength.

This cigar was exquisite and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

93/100 on my scale. One of the best cigars I've ever had.

I've smoked one from a 2000 box. Seemed pretty mild (not in a bad way), with light tea flavors and a bit of sweet spice.....

Very nice review...and quite similar to my experience with the Familiars. Great little smokes that pack a lot of solid tobacco flavor in a great-handling size. I love 'em.

Wish I knew..... But I did just open my box of 04s'..... Tried the 1st one and it was a sweet treat, until the last 3rd which got very tarry and harsh. I will try them again in a few months

I am a huge lover of Vegas Robaina and the Classico.

Along with the Sancho Panza Molino it is my favourite Lonsdale.

Excellent review

My experience with Vegas Robaina has been limited to Famosos and Unicos, both from 2004. However, it has been a favorable experience. These are on my must buy list...just not at the top yet.

» Great review! Always good to be reminded of the good cigars out there.

» Too many cigars ... too little time.

Too little money also. I like the familares, unico and DA.

Excellent reivew, really captures the VR profile. These have made their way in to my top 3 Marcas. I may have to light one up now!
