ha_banos Posted Saturday at 10:09 PM Posted Saturday at 10:09 PM Of the 3 dead one is a 7 year old girl I read elsewhere 😥 at Monte 722, between Rastro and Carmen on Friday. https://en.cibercuba.com/noticias/2025-07-12-u1-e129488-s27061-nid306873-tres-personas-atrapadas-tras-derrumbe-habana-vieja And this is another building in Havana's Santo Suárez Neighborhood on Saturday? With one dead. https://www.cubaheadlines.com/articles/306890 6
Fugu Posted Saturday at 11:21 PM Posted Saturday at 11:21 PM ….and not caused by earthquake - that’s the true tragedy! 1
JohnnyO Posted yesterday at 01:13 PM Posted yesterday at 01:13 PM If there are any survivors of any of those collapsed buildings they send you to a warehouse to sleep on the floor. If you don't have any family/friends to take you in, you could be sleeping on that floor 20+ years. John 2
Dlowil Posted yesterday at 01:20 PM Posted yesterday at 01:20 PM What a tragedy. Prayers to all involved.
helix Posted yesterday at 04:27 PM Posted yesterday at 04:27 PM More and more about to crumble as time goes on. Heaven forbid an earthquake in Havana occurs as it would just be a dust cloud. Truly an untenable situation. 😢
ATGroom Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The condition of the buildings is by far the most nerve-racking thing about visiting Havana for me. Centro Havana in particular has these narrow sidewalks with 3 and 4 story buildings with overhanging balconies that have huge cracks, chunks of concrete missing, exposed rusting rebar, random piles of rubble all over the place. It's terrifying. 2

It's terrifying. I stayed here on my latest trip: https://www.tribecaribecayohueso.com/ - beautiful interiors. ^ 100% on the balcony. I wondered with every coffee. Everyone I met in Havana (mostly Chinese to be fair who wouldn't leave the main hotels) thought I was a lunatic for staying in Centro. 1
ATGroom Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I was staying in Vedado last trip. At one point I had been walking back from Old Havana along the Malecon, and I wanted to cross the road from the sea-side to head back inland. I used the little tunnel under the Malecon at the square opposite the big hospital. The tunnel is just rotting concrete, all rebar exposed and completely rusted, lots of chunks all over the ground, more hanging loose from the ceiling, six lanes of trucks thundering overhead all day. Next time I'll take my chances on the road rather than use that thing. It definitely will collapse at some point and the Malecon will be cut off until it is repaired. 1 1
