Hi all,

What can I say? All is in the past. Bolivar used to be a very strong cigar before it became a cigar like all the rest, a very refined, very sophisticated cigar but no character that really stands out. Ken is right, it does not have the taste it used to have, and since 2004 after the Wolters series of 1000 boxes of 10. I can recall when the Gold Medal was so strong that you couldn't smoke it inside the house, but only outside because the smell would be so strong. Now, since 2007 it was like any other habanos cigar. Too bad it was tamed.

Thanks gents, for another excellent review! Which is widely reflecting my own impressions. (5 min intro - is this the new normal, Steve? 😄)

To be fair, this is the ‘New Gold Medal’, entirely new cigar and not necessarily meant to mimic the Gold Medal of old (the different runs of which were quite varied in themselves). I must confess, personally, I am a fan of the more refined blending in the larger Boli formats. The BCJ, aged BPC or the Tubo 3 may still give me that bit more of punchiness.

I may be wrong, but from the few NGM I smoked (two to be precise 😉) I’d reckon they are blended for the long run. Excellent tobacco, may even gain in strength but for sure in intensity. Let’s speak again in five and then perhaps again in ten years (God willing). 😅

Speaking of dosh, I think the PCC pricing is crazy. What did they think this cigar is? The gold-foil, really?! Why is Europe able to offer it at under half the price?
