ETECSA pricing schedule in Cuba

As all things in Cuba, ETECSA the local phone company will now be limiting the locals to a 360 CUP (about $1) monthly plan for their cell phones. If you use that up, you need to purchase the cheapest plan for $10 USD. However, that plan needs to be purchased outside of Cuba. Two things are in play here. They want the locals off the phone and social media, plus they want legitimate currency in an account abroad. Confusing, as many teachers require their students to do homework through the phones and workplaces want their employees downloading files or doing other tasks on their phone for work purposes. John

My Cuban girls just mentioned this fiasco to me. If I am correct, it's $10 per month for unlimited data once the $1 data is used?

Just spoke to the Cubans and they expect major power outage in coming days; the communist party does not want people to communicate via social media to meet up for riots - that's why they raised prices. You get extra 3g for $10 once your $1 monthly plan (6gs) are used.
