Popular Post El Presidente Posted April 5 Popular Post Posted April 5 In Cuba, individuals who enter with more than $5,000 US dollars or its equivalent in other currencies must declare the amount to Customs; otherwise, they may be subject to the confiscation of that money by the regime. Cuban Customs stopped an attempt to take 26,000 euros hidden in luggage during a control at the José Martí International Airport in Havana this Friday, authorities reported. The first deputy chief of the General Customs of the Republic (AGR), William Pérez González, announced in a brief message on the social network X that agents of that entity disrupted "the attempt to extract 26,000 euros, hidden in the double bottom of luggage sealed with nylon. According to the clarification, that amount of money, undeclared, "violated" the regulations set by the Central Bank of Cuba: "The established measures were applied," without specifying what they were. 2 2 1
Gubbins Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Fortunately (or unfortunately) I don’t think I will ever run into this problem.
Popular Post Ryan Posted April 6 Popular Post Posted April 6 They don't care about foreign currency entering the country. They want foreign currency entering. It's foreign currency leaving they care about. That is why the declaration on entering is important. Nowadays I always have to enter with over 5,000. I always declare on the d'Viajeros form, the customs part. They don't care, there is no tax and no "tax" on entering with over 5,000. I sometimes leave with over 5,000, but as I have declared on the way in, not an issue. The issue leaving the country with over 5,000 is not declaring it on the way in. I know someone, we know someone, who had a US tour group pay him in Cuba in USD. On leaving Cuba, it was taken from him. Many airports and ports around the world will impound large amounts of cash as they know it is usually for money-laundering purposes. Irish ports, and many other places, have cash-sniffing dogs. 3 3
