Popular Post teamrandr Posted March 8 Popular Post Posted March 8 The CA cigar of the year winner. Yeah I know that carries little weight here. However I have found My Father's line to be a very solid go to in lieu of insanely priced CC. 1/3 Initial draws are a blast of spice. Underneath that is cocoa/chocolate, wood, and charred bread. Pepper coats the palate. As it progresses more chocolate comes into play. It is pepper forward with chocolate, Graham, charred bread. 2/3 Fortunately this is getting more balance. I have come to appreciate Pepins blends. Chocolate and some sweetness is there now. The lingering pepper on the palate is gone. Retrohale has bite and highlights the pepper/spice. Chocolate, robust burned bread/graham, leather, pepper. Final 3rd Their is a pronounced nicotine effect. I am smoking this after breakfast which is kind of heavy. The Graham note is more present. Toasty notes of nuts, Graham, charred bread all mix with chocolate, leather, and of course pepper. I would rate this: Over rated but still very good. I can't see how this is better than say any of Upmann's best CC offerings. However for the price it is a solid cigar. 5
SCgarman Posted March 8 Posted March 8 It is a unique blend, and much different than say a Padron 26/64. At $275/box a much more affordable stick than any Upmann $500-$700/box. I bought a box of Judge Corona Gordas 5.5X46 and they are a bit more reasonable in size. I read that My Father cigars is also now in Honduras with a new factory and they are growing tobacco there. They are soon releasing a line of Honduras grown cigars in a couple months. Should be interesting. Unlike HSA which is stagnant and can't even produce a majority of their catalogue, these NC cigar makers are flourishing, building new factories, growing good leaf and selling their cigars at a price most can afford. 3
teamrandr Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 It is most certainly a much better value then any current Habanos offering. In terms of construction and consistency it is not even close. For my palate I would prefer many CC to this particular blend. However I have been priced out of Cubans for several years now. I am glad NC companies are picking up the ball.
