Matanzas hangs the sign NO BREAD for the basic basket The production of basic basket bread in Matanzas has been suspended due to a lack of flour, affecting all municipalities Thursday, February 27, 2025 - 12:40 Cuban authorities announced on Thursday the suspension of basic basket bread production in all municipalities of Matanzas, due to the low availability of wheat flour. The Provincial Food Company of Matanzas reported that "despite the efforts made, the territory does not have available flour for the production of bread for the regulated family basket in any municipality, as of today, February 27, 2025," according to a note posted on Facebook by the official newspaper Girón. The head of the entity, Iván Castro Rodríguez, acknowledged on Wednesday that the efforts have been unsuccessful, describing the situation as a total failure; however, the day before, at least food was guaranteed for the provincial capital. By Thursday, even residents in the capital of the territory will be affected. 3
