Gardner cigar lounge customers send cigars, notes to Chiefs players

GARDNER, Kan. (KCTV) - When a sports team wins, it’s pretty common to see players lighting a cigar in celebration. One local cigar lounge is making sure the Chiefs are ready should they win on Sunday and has found a fun way for Chiefs fans involved.

Ash & Anvil Cigar Lounge in Gardner, Kansas, is inviting Chiefs fans to buy a cigar for a player and write a handwritten note that they’ll be shipping to New Orleans ahead of the Super Bowl.

“It’s been awesome,” said Derrick Stockton, the managing owner of Ash & Anvil. “All of our customers, all of our regulars showed up. We bring in people from other businesses. They all come in, fill out a sheet. Everyone is excited to write a little note to the players.”

This is the second year they’ve done this and so far, dozens have participated. This year, they are sending their house-brand cigars, made in the Dominican Republic.

“More than the cigars, it’s fun to be part of the celebration and part of the community coming together, rallying around our team,” said Stockton.

For some, the Chiefs being in the Super Bowl for the third year in a row may be annoying, but for lifelong Chiefs fans like Stockton, it’s something they don’t take for granted.

“Watching the Chiefs growing up and going to the parties, going to aunts and uncles houses, and being part of the family, part of that community and now, now that we have the lounge here, extending that and bringing all of our friends in and enjoying it together is really what it’s all about for us,” said Stockton.

There will be a Super Bowl watch party at Ash & Anvil on Sunday, and Stockton hopes to see the Chiefs enjoying their cigars if they win.

“This is a gift from us to them and from our customers to them, to congratulate them on a great season, win or lose a great season,” said Stockton.

They plan on shipping the cigars out Thursday afternoon, so you still have time to swing by.
