Bite cut: have done it a few times when very new to smoking. Wouldn't do it again.

Fingernail cut on the other hand I would do any time it was even mildly inconvenient to use a cutter.

I would have said the same thing before meeting the man I talk about in my previous post. He's a seasoned cigar smoker and I've never seen him ruin a cigar doing it so, to each his own of course.

I wouldn't say a lot of people do it and I wouldn't advise anyone else to do it though.

In the very early 2000's I went to Havana with mates. We purchased some cigars and went to a shady local bar. I asked the barman if he had a cutter. He grabbed my cigar, bit the end off and spat it out, then handed it back and chuckled, "Cuban cut". Ha ha! Was very funny I thought. Hardly anyone in the bar and there was a great quartet playing their own Cuban music live. Looked over to the right and there was Matt Dillon with an entourage, all smoking stoggies and chilling to the music. A knowing nod was exchanged. Great afternoon with the room full of smoke and song.

Nope, never seen this done I can recall. Like @ATGroom I find myself using the fingernail cut quite a lot anymore. After watching @El Presidente do it a few times a while back on some old videos I figured why not, and it usually works very well and only takes about 10 seconds once you get it down. Just did it yesterday on golf course on a custom roll.

Personally, I prefer a cutter of some sort but have def. I have gotten creative in a pinch, including simply biting the cap off once or twice. I am of the school that whatever makes someone happy is good enough for me and I will do what makes me happy of course too. A worse predicament is not having a flame!
