El Presidente Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Yesterday on FOH Zoom, Robert (Ford2112) was extolling the virtues of La Flor De Cano Petit Corona (from memory). I honestly haven't had one for a long time but apparenttly at sub $4 a stick they are the bomb. I am keen to reaquaint myself. Anyone else here a regular smoker of the LFDC Petit Corona? I have to say I am a fan of the La Flor De Cano Elegidos (Robusto) but I am a lover of LFDC in general. My question: Do you have to be a lover of LFDC to enjoy the Elegidos? 1
Ardan Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Yes to make the initial decision to take the "risk" of smoking it A solid "No" to enjoy it however. A few months ago, I was at a cigar lounge in Queens, NY. We had already bought our NC cigars and enjoying them happily when the owner struck a conversation with us. The topic naturally went towards Cuban cigars, and we were talking about them for about 30 min when I mentioned that I liked LFDC. As soon as I said that, the owners eyes lit and went forward showing us some of the Cuban cigars he also stored in a cabinet in the humidor. The first box he pulled out where the Elegidos. Even knowing from this site that they have short filler, I am a huge LFDC fan and had to give it a try, even at the exorbitant price he was selling them at. My brother-in-law was not sold on them since he was not familiar with the brand, so I ended up getting one for him as well. To say that we both enjoyed the cigar immensely was an understatement. Excellent flavor, excellent burn. You would have thought it was a much higher quality cigar. My brother-in-law started comparing them to Epicure #2 and D4s that he is a fan of. Anyway, thought that would make a nice LFDC related story. Can't wait for the chance to get myself a box on this site. I seem to keep missing them. 3
NSXCIGAR Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I do like LFDC but the Elegidos are one step above JLP and it's not a big step. I think they made a huge mistake making these short filler. If they'd made these high quality long filler it could have been a great way to return LFDC to prominence. The ERs have been almost all good especially the last three--in particular the Magicos. A huge missed opportunity IMO. 2
Ford2112 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Actually @El Presidente I was touting the JLP Petit Cetros. I managed to get them at just above 2 usd a stick. I have been eyeballing the Elegidos. The JLP Brevas was the first cheap and cheerful I bought. I'll be trying a couple others like Quintero and Vegueros. What better time than Cigarmageddon?

They've been a steady companion for me since I discovered them 10 years ago. Tough to compare these two vitolas but I'd probably put the JLP Cetros on par with the Elegidos and that's not a good thing for the Elegidos. 1

Chitmo Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I have a few boxes of Selectos that are 12-13 years old, I enjoy them more than some smokes that were multiples in price.
Ardan Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I was away this past weekend with a few friends and opened a box of Elegidos (FEB 2024) and brought 4 of them with me. I would have liked to have rested them more, but I also wanted an excuse to try them. Two of the individuals that smoked these with me only smoke on occasion. I was expecting at least 1 of them to be plugged, but they all had good draw. As we were smoking I was keeping an eye on them and all had exceptional burn as well and no touch up where needed. Everyone also commented on how much they enjoyed it. My impression of it was mostly positive. I could tell it needed more time. Mild to Medium, and paired very well with the Johnny Walked Gold Reserve I was drinking. Subtle floral hints, overall an enjoyable flavor profile, yet sometimes muted. I can't wait to see how these age.
DOYLE Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Thank you for starting this conversation. I’ve curious about the Elegidos. I bought a box last year that’s been sitting in my humidor untouched. Might have to dip into them soon. Wish the PC’s were still around. Would have liked to try those.
