Padrón’s Updated Bands Begin Arriving at Stores

The next Padrón cigar you purchase might have a slightly different look to it, as the company has given some of its bands an update and they are now appearing at cigar shops.

The company has previously used two bands for its higher-end lines, namely the Dámaso, 1964 Anniversary Series, 1926 Serie, Family Reserve and 50th Anniversary lines. One of those bands is an individually numbered guarantee label, the other sits atop that band and has the name and designs of the particular cigar. Now, the company has changed that to become just one band, while still offering that number that can be used to verify the cigar’s authenticity.

The 1964 Anniversary Series, the 1926 Serie, and the Dámaso series are the first lines to shift to a single-band design. The Family Reserve will also move to the single, integrated band design in the future, though the company has not yet set a timeline for when that will happen.

The company’s special releases, which use a secondary band below the primary and guarantee band, will continue to use that secondary band. This applies to releases such as the 1926 Serie No. 90, the Family Reserve 45th, the Dàmaso Red, and others.

The change caught some retailers and consumers off-guard, as Jorge Padrón told halfwheel that he had been fielding calls from people who were concerned that they might have acquired a counterfeit cigar. Padrón assured them that the cigar was the real deal, just with an updated look.

The company is not using the new band design for its Padrón Series.

I guess retailers who were caught off guard didn't attend the PCA tradeshow or the Friday presentation sessions. Jorge talked extensively about it and the interaction between him and his father when he was younger around the band and how it was important to the brand.

I like this change. I usually smoke my cigars past the band, and removing two is a PIA.

I still have questions about the serial no. situation and how it's used, who uses it, whether it's legit, etc.
