El Presidente Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 Trivia: Approximately how many tobacco leaves are in a 4500 pound pilon? 1
NeoGeo Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 I'd guess there are about 25-50 per pound, so I'll go with 135,000...using a middle number of say 30 leaves per pound. This feels low, but sounds close. 🤣 I never did well at the old "how many gumballs are in this jar and whoever gets closest wins it" game!
wjs Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 I used the same math but used the high end - 50 leaves to the lb. 225,000 leaves.
Cigar Surgeon Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 When you combine them together to form a bulk you do so in a 'hand' which is anywhere from 20 - 40 leaves. Now the weight of those hands is going to depend on the type and grade of leaf. There's a few things I'm going to assume here. This is not a bulk of wrapper tobacco because the bulk is too big. If it was wrapper tobacco this bulk is going to combust. I'm also assuming the above is filler tobacco, and Honduran. Now what I don't know is whether this is seco, viso, or ligero. If I assume it's viso or ligero and it's a little on the denser side, and I air on the heavier estimation of 30 grams a leaf: You're looking at roughly 68,039 leaves of tobacco. If the tobacco is 40 grams then 51,029 leaves and if it's lighter 102,058 leaves. I could make a much better estimate if I knew exactly what kind of tobacco it was. 4
Chibearsv Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 2 leaves per ounce? 150,000 leaves per 4500 lbs maybe?

Jaks93 Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 That's a lot of leaves I'm going to say around 50,000. How many robusto size cigars can be made from that?
El Presidente Posted May 31, 2024 Author Posted May 31, 2024 Assume the following: All filler. (A pilon of wrapper is 3000 pounds). 4500 pounds 660 Gavillas per layer 12 Layers 1
Jimmy2 Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 Between 67,000 and 125,000…I would think. Depending how heavy some of the individual leafs are.
GerardMichaelTX Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 The more interesting question is how many acres to the pilon.

Li Bai Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 I will use AI to find it out and I'll get back to you. I just have to figure out how to use it. 🤔 1

The Pilón for wrappers is different, around 3000 pounds, and 660 gavillas per layers and 8 layers equals 184,800 leaves Approximately. How many say Robusto per 100,000 leaves....approx? have a crack. 3
