Popular Post JohnS Posted May 27, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 27, 2024 I'd agree with all those choices. Laurent has only done a short video here, but I'd add 'The Great Book of The Habano' by Adriano Martínez Rius from 2010 and 'The Connoisseur´s Book of the Cigar' by Zino Davidoff, 1969 would be worthy additions to this list. 4 3
Jerryvonkramer Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 This thread just reminding me I've still not forked for MRN, price is eye-watering. 1
Engenheiro Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 I was lucky enough to get a signed 1st edition of El Habano Moderno ... very informative book. I notice in the video that Habano News has the collector's edition of that very same book in the back, complete with sealed box. Collector's Edition MSRP costs just as much as a real box of cigars! 2
Popular Post ATGroom Posted May 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 29, 2024 If you're interested in the technical details of Cuban cigar production, by far the best book is El Habano: De La Semilla al Puro en 539 Pasos (The Habano, From Seed to Cigar in 539 Steps) by Eumelio Espino. General history and story of the industry probably The Great Book of the Habano and The Great Habano Factories by Andriano Martinez Ruis. If you want a reference book of all the different sizes and details of the releases etc, pre-2002 there's no alternative to Min Ron Nee's Illustrated Encyclopaedia. 3 8

Popular Post Jimmy2 Posted May 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 29, 2024 These are the two books I have had for many years. The MRN book is so worn out as I spent a lot of time going through that book. ATGroom mentioned the The Great Habano Factories book and its picture is below. Bought it many moons ago from the Prez. Just pulled theses two books out of storage over 10 years. It’s time to revisit them. 6

jazzboypro Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 I bought "The World Of The Habano" a few months ago. Very well made book. 4

JohnS Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Davidoff by Dieter H Wirtz was released in German and English versions, I think? I would love to locate a copy in English but I believe it's not so easy to find. 1 2

Book overview Embraced by men and women, icons and filmstars alike, cigars represent a lifestyle typified by the hip, well-dressed and confident. This work looks at the modern cigar-smoking lifestyle, combining profiles of the different types of cigars with and images of smokers' clubs and bars. 1

Thanks! 👌😚💨

Popular Post Habanoschris Posted October 27, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 27, 2024 Another one I have that appears to be going around a bit - it's kind of a historical context and account of the evolution of Cuba's' tobacco industry. I imagine there are many here familiar with much of it but it's pretty detailed. 8

I imagine there are many here familiar with much of it but it's pretty detailed. Tobacco on the Periphery is another one I'd highly recommend. It's not really a cigar book in that it's about Cuban society, not cigars, but it added a huge amount of context for me that helped me understand the industry as it fits into Cuban history. It's not a book for someone with a casual interest, but if you want to move from "aficionado" to "scholar" I'd say it's a must read at some point. If nothing else it will give you a lot of little aha moments where you make a connection like "oh, so that's why La Corona is named after Miguel Fernández Roig." Jean Stubbs has another book released just recently called Tobacco Counterpoints (available from Amazon and all good bookstores). I haven't read it yet, but I understand it's a collection of her academic papers, many of which I have read. All are worth a look and expand on what you'd get from Tobacco on the Periphery. 5 3
