Chitmo Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 Not sure what everyone else thinks, but the prize isn’t very compelling to me. At least not enough to risk my ego trying to describe subtle nuances of burnt tobacco in a public forum. Maybe a shot a reserving a specific box should one come up in the future? Early 24:24 access is only useful if there’s something you want. I’ll just shut up if I’m in the minority, I was just in the mood to add my two cents. Peace F.

Thanks for letting us know the value of your allegedly delicate ego. But it's not just the 24:24 access, you leave out the Nudies sampler and the monthly box prize draw. Still not enough? That's fine. Each to their own. I saw one prize winner recently pick up a box of Sir Winstons with his early access. Positivity trumping negativity. Just my two cents. 2

Those are all fair points, but for me it’s kinda like being first in line for a sale. You feel obligated to buy something even though there maybe nothing you really wanted just so you feel like you didn’t waste the opportunity. For those reasons I don’t do Black Friday, 24:24 early access or enter casinos 😂 odds are stacked against me and someone else is probably going to get my money and I’ll be left explaining it to my wife (The divorce lawyer, seriously!) who scares me when she’s angry.

That's why the other prizes exist alongside it. Worst case scenario is you walk away with a Nudies 5-pack and a chance to win the monthly box prize. Just for a few lines and a pic about your passion for cigars, which is a great contribution to the forum - regardless of your skills as a reviewer. Reviews can be very basic if you like, but you'll get more interaction with more detail. In any case, seems a good deal to me, especially in the cigar environment we currently exist in. But, as I said, each to their own. 👍 1 1
Popular Post MagicalBikeRide Posted February 27, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2024 FWIW, I think the prizes are amazing. It’s free to enter and I had planed to smoke every cigar I’ve posted a review for. So costs me nothing and is basically no effort. The nudie samplers have been great - I’ve won 5x spada gorda, 5x churchill and a 4 pack mix over the past year ish. I’ve had the early access once and snared a box of El Laguito E2’s. And on top of all this, we now have a chance to win a completely free full box. I also enjoy reading the reviews others post. Win win in all directuons. ps - I prefer the idea of 24:24 access on a random day rather than a reserved box in the future - feels fairer in the round. 5

Yes, exactly. And in addition a reserved box is much more difficult to do, these days, availability wise (who knows when it will come up) and therefore with the knock-on effect of making the process itself unfeasible. That said, always open to new ideas. A PM is a good way to broach them. 👍 1

Whereas if I express my feelings to you in private and things go sideways I have no power to help myself. I like and prefer when someone is watching, it’s safer. Thanks in think?!

Whereas if I express my feelings to you in private and things go sideways I have no power to help myself. I like prefer when someone is watching, it’s safer. As for my previous statements after this, I’ve decided to double down on my opinion. The only person that wins in this contest is the person selling the product, you’re entrapping people with impulse control issues by making them feel thrilled in the experience. Let’s not kid ourselves here, rational people don’t have 1000s of cigars hoarded away. None or very few of us are rational about this. In fact I’d wager pres started this whole thing as a way to make other people pay his passion. And power to him. Free world and all, which is why I can rant like this and get my point across. But please don’t patronize me anymore, let’s just call a spade a spade and move on. It’s really well thought out marketing but nobody here is really winning anything. Not a dig. I was responding to the member's post and to the forum in general. Ideas (not feelings) for comps are best initially posed as a PM so we can gauge feasibility. It's not for the community to decide on what's feasible or not, so it works best this way before engaging the public. And many people have approached me via this method, for various comps, and we've implemented some. That said, anyone can post a comp idea as a topic, but it might be quickly dismissed as unfeasible and so it's just more prudent to broach privately first. As to "entrapping"... Presumably anyone entering the contest wishes to use the prize - i.e. win cigars and have a chance to buy something in 24:24 and is ready to do so. No one is making you enter. In fact, this week's winner made no purchase because nothing took his fancy. He still WON a 5-pack sampler and a chance in the box draw. If one can't control oneself then maybe they don't enter the comp... or go online at all, for that matter.

I highly doubt it is my business to chime in here as @MoeFOH has this under control, however I will state that sending a PM is much more for your own sake than anyone else's. There is no obligation for our host to provide incentives for the reviews we post, but he is kind enough to do so. The competitions are open to all members, new and old, and I have never once read a complaint about said quality of prizes (albeit I am new to here as well). If you don't like the current system, there is no requirement to participate and if you'd like to have a shot at prizes there are still other routes to do so. I think the benefit of sending a direct message as opposed to openly venting about it in a public forum post is nothing more than perception. While I believe your intentions were wholesome, it is difficult to read your posts as such. I also hope that you feel "safe" sending a PM since this is a cigar forum...not sure what security can be found posting publicly here. Apologies for involving myself where it is not appropriate but after reading this thread I found it hard not to. 4

You need to rethink your method of discourse. Add value where you can. You don't have to actually type every thought bubble. 6
Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted February 28, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 28, 2024 the benefit of sending a PM, is that when you post something really stupid (and i am just speaking generally here, as someone who has posted his fair share of idiocy), you don't expose yourself as a complete tosser. of course, it is entirely possible that our glorious leader thinks that this very post does not add value. 2 4

wjs Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 Participation in a free, moderated forum + prizes for contributions one might have made unprompted = bad. I must be getting old because that math doesn't add up. 1
