  • Jesus Areso scored from an unbelievable angle - but fans question if he meant it!
  • It was his first-ever goal and it helped Osasuna beat Mason Greenwood's Getafe

Jesus Areso scored a breathtaking goal from near the corner flag to help Osasuna to a 3-2 victory over Mason Greenwood's Getafe in LaLiga.

The defender looked like he had been shepherded into a hopeless position when he marauded down the flank but ended up by the corner in the 80th minute.

But the right-back, 24, managed to buy a flicker of space and smashed the ball into the box, likely as a hopeful cross.

Little did he know it would sail beyond the reach of goalkeeper David Soria and against the far post, bouncing into the net for a remarkable first goal of his career.

'He puts it in off the post from an impossible angle. What in the world was that? Jesus Areso just made the impossible look routine,' purred the stunned commentator.

'It's goal-of-the-year-worthy. It might not have been on purpose, but it sure doesn't matter. Jesus Areso with a boomerang has brought Osasuna back in front.'

'Fluke, but what a goal,' one user wrote afterwards on X.

'This is the maddest goal,' said another, adding several shocked face emojis.

'He didn’t mean it but that’s an outrageous angle to score from,' commented another.

'Wowwwwww who cares if he meant it or not. These things barely happen,' said another.

As for the Osasuna fans, they were hysterical after Areso scored the goal that would win them the match against Mason Greenwood's Getafe.

Areso was mobbed on the touchline by fellow players and staff as he went over to celebrate with his supporters.

Manchester United loanee Greenwood played the full match but wasn't able to find a goal.

Osasuna got back to winning ways after a couple of defeats on the spin, one of which was a 2-0 loss at the hands of Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals.
