Our little island is awash with musical people, but Shane’s talent, skill and character, for me, is best summated in how highly Christy Moore spoke of him. Any time the opportunity arose, Christy jumped to praise him.

High praise indeed. Nick Cave, whom I also admire immensely, spoke of him similarly.

He'd get a lot of ribbing around here for his lifestyle and teeth. The Pogues were very popular in Boston due to massive Irish ex-pat community. Hero and embarrassment wrapped in one.

Loved the blending of traditional Irish music with punk, and MacGowan's lyrics were evocative and often spectacular.
