Popular Post Capn_Jackson Posted August 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 18, 2023 Braving the heat this morning - 105 on my porch! - to enjoy another favorite, the RA Superiores. I am coupling this with what I find to be an appropriate drink. I’m sipping on a shot of… wait for it…. Cranberry juice!! Okay, there’s a splash of HC7 rum in there too. Nothing fancy. Also having my usual soda water, also with a splash of cranberry. I am always hesitant to light up a Superiores, as my stock of these is limited, and they are hard to find these days. This cigar is mostly very smooth, with just a few slight bumps here and there. Nice shade of peanut butter brown. The aroma has some cedar, and a little hay. Cold draw is the same, with also a little honey and sweet floral notes. After a straight cut, the draw on this is absolutely perfect, to me. Lighting this up at about 11:15am. Nice and smooth, delicious tobacco, with a bit of honey and strong notes of graham cracker and sourdough. First third: Throughout the first third, those graham cracker and honey flavors dominate, with a slight bit of rosted almond. The finish is delectable, and has some nutty bread notes, along with the slightest hint of a floral taste. Long finish, lasting until the next puff. Strength is right around medium. Great smoke output, and very creamy texture and mouthfeel. Love the retrohale on this. This is where most of the almond comes to me. Great balance with the bread and graham qualities. Second third: Second third is bringing a little more of the fruit that RA cigars are known for, even though this one only has a couple years of age on it. Getting even creamier, and the almond notes almost morph into sort of a marzipan. The finish is about the same, however I think I detect a slight bit of lemongrass on the tongue as well. Around the halfway point, the burn line is a little wavy, but no jagged hook lines or any problems. Also, it starts taking on more of those infamous “stewed fruit” notes, as well as a specific caramel flavor that I usually only find in cigars with much more age. Tiny hint of salt, too. I picked a good one today! Final third: Bold caramel and graham cracker notes dominate going into the last part. That little bit of honey takes on a darker flavor. Not much lemongrass anymore, but the creamier fruit still lingers on the edge. Not too sweet at all, and mingling great with the graham cracker. Bit of a bread flavor, kind of a rye bread, shows up to the party along with some sugared raisin. Finished up at around 1pm. Love this smoke, and I’m always wishing that my other smokes were as consistent as these. Fantastic stick! It never left the medium range for me in strength, but full-favored all the way. Not overly complex, just an ongoing shuffle of all those flavors. None of the cast members tried to outshine anyone else, but everything came in excellent balance. Good smoke right down to the very end. At my slow pace, that was an hour and 45 minutes of pure enjoyment. My score: 95 Follow me for more exciting shot recipes! 😎 16 1
Tunkat92 Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Not a RA fan, but imo the RAS is the best of the lot 3
BossHogg Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Nicely done! I was smoking these once a year on the box Anni due to limited amounts as well. 1
MoeFOH Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Cranberry juice with a splash of rum... very interesting! Sounds like that tart & sweet combo might've combined really well with some of the flavour characteristics you've listed? Nice review overall! 1
