He just began his first term as a Congressman in Cuba. He is certainly drinking the PCC cool aide (as all party members are required to) but he is at least open to dialogue with the US and seems eager to fix that problem. It will be interesting to see how he and this new generation shape Cuba's path forward as the "old guard" finally die off. 

The interview below was actually quite interesting I recommend watching it slowed down, he speaks true Cuban, very fast and half the letters are missing. haha.

Excellent viewing. 

I suspect Elian will never get anywhere near the military levers of power.

With his animosity towards the US I suspect he will be promoted up the political chain farther than you may think.

I would actually consider him quite "dovish" when compared to others at the same level of government. Prior to the Obama thaw even speaking about hopes for better relations with the U.S. could have been enough to get you "disappeared." Most of the older generation is still 100% anti U.S., Elian seems to be more like 60-75%? Haha. It may be slow progress, but its progress.
