Popular Post cgoodrich Posted April 30, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 30, 2023 This was the first stick from a cab of 25, and my first Epi 2. I’m not a huge fan of HdM, I find them a bit too light for my palate. Thought I’d give it a try while doing some yard work. The wrapper was a nice medium brown, a bit darker than the usual HDM claro color. There was very little pre-light aroma, a bit of grass and tobacco. After clipping the head I found the draw very lush, more like a wind tunnel. Taste was the same grassiness. 1/3: This stick produced a copious amount of mild smoke. Flavors were grass/hay, definitely walnut, and a touch of honey around the edges. It was light bodied but very creamy. 2/3: The strength picked up a touch to just over mild, predominantly walnut and grass with the honey becoming a bit more noticeable. 3/3: Strength reached medium-mild, but started becoming hot due to the open draw. Lost the honey and grass flavors, walnut went more to the background, and picked up a coffee and toasted tobacco character. I had to pay attention not to draw too frequently or risk that overheated charred taste. Overall it was a fairly decent cigar, had some complexity, just not the type I would have in my wheelhouse on a regular rotation. I’d give it an 87/88 rating. 9 1
GVan Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Good Review! Just like many CC's - they need some time down to shine. In a 2020 post, @El Presidente said they need 3 to 5 years to reach their smoking prime. At just shy of 3 years your EPI-2 is just entering the window. I had the same initial thoughts when I purchased my first box -- Epi's are pretty light bodied cigars and not really in my wheel house. `last night I smoked the second to the last cigar from my first box. I only have one other box as a back-up (REG DIC-18). An Epi-2 is not my first pick when I'm humidor surfing but, surprisingly, these seem to be going pretty fast between my own smoking and my guests. At this stage - I wish I had bought a few more boxes! 1
