Popular Post JohnnyO Posted September 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 21, 2022 This past weekend I made it down to Havana to find some more new surprises. 1st surprise was the Cuban peso started the day at 170:1, all foreign currencies are still spending good. Tired of chasing water, I took down some liquids as the title says. Yeah, I know you guys say Fosters is swill but Publix had the 25 oz cans on sale for $1.50 and the family loved the amber version. On the last day the power went out for about 6 hours in the morning in Playa. I can deal with the outages during the day, its the night and the battle with the mosquitos that I have a problem with. On my way to the airport I had two family members that I was traveling with call me and ask me: "Didn't you bring water? I cant find any water" Oh but you told me it was overkill and now you want to dip into my reserves. OK. You can have some water. I honestly thought I over did it, until I saw a guy retrieve 2 cases of water from the luggage carousel. AC was off in the airport, in minutes I was swimming in sweat. Had lobster the whole time I was there at 875 CUP/dish so that was good. But the icing on the cake was a story my sister in law told me on how her day went. She was doing a presentation at the Havana Libre hotel on the ozone and weather effects in Cuba. There was UN members present. 10 minutes into her presentation the power went out. No back up generator. So there were all these people dressed in long sleeved shirts, jackets and ties fumbling around with flashlights and candles. She said she'd never been so embarrassed in her life. I told her I would have laughed through the whole situation. But then I told her that she didn't like the revolution and it was her obligation to advance the revolution as Diaz-Canel says. I went further on to say that she didn't come prepared and that she needed to bring a stationary bike. That way she could strap on a wire from the bike to the hotels power source and start pumping the bike as she did her presentation like the Russians do. Everyone would have smiled and clapped and gone home happy. But the power never came back on. John 6

El Presidente Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 XXXX Heavy is one of the great beers of the world! I don't even think that you can buy Fosters in this country?

Bill Hayes Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Fosters is usually sweeter with less flavour than some of the everyday lawnmower beers like Carlton Draught, Victoria Bitter and XXXX. These beers are best served straight out of an ice filled esky (cooler) and drunk fast enough not to get warm, straight out of the can or stubbie with a stubbie holder at a BBQ while watching sport. Ha ha! Once your palate adapts to the rusty razor blade flavour profile, you'll happily swill one after the other. If on tap in a pub then you'll soon know if the barman has cleaned the lines because these beers are easily made pretty rank if not super cold and through dirty lines. Some pubs in Melbourne have Carlton Draught large tanks instead of kegs. They tend to serve the best in town. There's one at the airport too. Cheers. PS. I might just have a boysenberry and dragonfruit Imperial milkshake sour now. Carry on!
