Popular Post Bill Hayes Posted August 22, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 22, 2022 I like to pair stout with Partagas and Bolivar. On Friday I was delivered some beer from Range Brewing in Brisbane. This brewery is mostly known for hazy IPA and fruit driven IPA. They also make reasonable pastry stout, which as the name suggests, usually is a lot sweeter than traditional Russian Imperial Stout or Oatmeal Stout. The style also usually includes the addition of other ingredients to mimic a flavour profile. The stout I tried was a collaboration with two of my favourite breweries, Range and also Garage Project from Wellington in NZ. Fush and Chups is a homage to a famous NZ chocolate bar that is shaped like a fish and filled with strawberry marshmallow. Included in the delivery was also the chocolate bar. I tried the chocolate bar with the stout and it was pretty delicious, although a dessert in itself with the stout. Halfway through the stout I lit a Partagas PC. The burn was brilliant on a bit of a windy day with big rustic Partagas flavours, kind of woody and peppery. The stout tended to slightly overpower the flavours and not really bring out any sweetness in the cigar that I was hoping for. Infact, the cigar dulled the sweetness of the stout. Not really a match made in heaven. I made a long macchiato. Now that’s better. A good experiment nonetheless. With the coffee, the Partagas shone and I nubbed it. Cheers. This cigar won't break into the 90's but I enjoy the size and the rough edges on a cold day. Bring on spring with more refined flavours, sunshine and whisky soda. 7
rcarlson Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Loves me good stouts and porters. Loves me a Party PC. Not together though (any CC), as you learned. Too overpowering. Pic is making me thirsty. Good luck. 2
