El Presidente Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Blow and behold there I was at CZAR House with boots on the desk watching "GoodFellas" on the big screen when in walks good friend and member Steve Pelligrino with a guest, Rear Admiral Mike Miller of the USS Ronald Reagan Aircraft Carrier (visiting Brisbane). With 5000 men under command he was also looking for some R&R and looking to re-stock his on-board humidor. What a great bloke. He spoke openly of life in charge of Billions of dollars of equipment, his 5000 men under command and his personal cigar smoking deck off his on-board stateroom. An hour and a few glasses of Fine Pedro Ximinez sherry later he donned his new Friends of Habanos Cap and gifted me a Stike Force 7 commemorative coin. No doubt after crappy day Sunday where an F18 crashed into the ocean (pilot OK) on a landing to the RR, Mike would have retired to his deck and fired up a cigar :-D
Wiley Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Awesome! Talk about a stressful job. (I'm talking about your job, btw Rob. Entertaining the VIPs over sherry and cigars must take it right outta you!) Can you post a picture of the coin?

Colt45 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Are you saying a U.S. naval officer stocks his humidor with Cuban cigars?! Great Story!

Ben Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Pity you didn't get a guided tour of the boat Rob. Back when I was a cadet me and the rest of my flight got an all access tour of the Carl Vinson and when the Commander caught me drooling at one of the Tomcats he allowed me to hop up into the cockpit and peruse the Pilots office at my leisure, I damn near pissed my pants with excitement. Then there was the nutter marine gunny who cracked open the Armory and enthusiastically let us play with all the smallarms. The boat itself though just blew me away whod've thought such a behemoth could float let alone do 40+ knots. From memory the Ronnie is newest of the Nimitz class even bigger and more advanced than her predecessors.
Tampa1257 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Sorry that you couldn't snap a photo of him with his FOH cap on, and have evidence of his Habano habit, but his job security clearance might have black vans all around your place watching every single thing that happens too.......
Fatshotbud Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Glad all went well and you each enjoyed the others company.
Phailure Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 » Just doing my part for world peace Ross  Sounds like a great time! Glad to know you're pulling your weight. ;-)

Taino Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 American general, pushing the button to destroy Iraq, from Australian territorial waters with a Cuban cigar in his mouth... I love globalization!:-D
Mel Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 5000 men under him Wow some guys are happy to have one man under them, right Rob?;-) Good to know our real men on command aren't afraid to smoke a real cigar. I'm sure many of our US politicans smoke Habanos also but don't have the guts to go into the office and push for change.
Loki Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Rob Thanks for supporting our troops even if it was only one.;-)

LOL! They smoke Habanos in their damn office buildings in Washington and then go vote to tighten restrictions and keep the embargo in place, the hypocritical bastards. It's all about keeping Florida happy.
genevapics Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Just hope you didn't sell him any plugged cigars. :-D
Ben Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 » Just hope you didn't sell him any plugged cigars. :-D Yeah you're probably still within Harpoon range Prez :-P
