Popular Post bishop532 Posted February 12, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 12, 2022 Its warmed up a bit in Chicagoland; almost hit 40 F today. I’ve been meaning to try the RyJ Cazadore for quite a while, and with the slightly improved temperature outside, tonight seems like a great opportunity. I was able to pick up one which is a month shy of five years for my first try. It looks and feels spectacular. I love the size, which is next door to a lonsdale. The wrapper has a very pretty rosado tint, and the the cigar just feels weighty in the hand. It’s solid, but not rock solid; there is just enough give for me to be pretty confident it’s going to have a good draw. The aroma off the foot is cream and leather with a touch of maple sweetness. The cold draw is spicy and savory and a tad fruity, like some kind of delicious broth from an exotic country. I taste cinnamon, nutmeg, possibly chicken soup (it’s a good flavor, but fleeting, and I’m left wondering if I misread it), and cherries. Something very much like maraschino cherries kicks off the first third. There are also light leather and earth notes. The retro adds a floral character. I’m enjoying it so far, and looking forward to seeing what’s next. In the second third, the cherries combine with floral and nectar notes to create something like the flavor of an old fashioned cherry soda. The retro adds baking spice and cedar. Plenty of cream in there too. Just before the halfway mark, the bite from the soda takes on a pepper character, and some black coffee makes an appearance. So far, construction has been fair to middling. Had to correct the burn line once, and the ash is a bit shaky and tends to fall off at awkward times, but smoke output has been good so I can’t complain too much. The final third starts off with heavy cedar, pepper, coffee, and cherry flavors, along with what might be biscuit. The nicotine level has kicked up noticeably to what I’d call medium-full. Towards the end the cherry note finally bows out. The last inch or so is all spice and coffee. It’s a strong flavor, but still enjoyable to me. I have to say, I really enjoyed the flavors this cigar had on offer. It was creamy, fruity, spicy, and woody. It was complex. The transitions were sharp and kept it interesting. I’ve often heard this is a bitter cigar, without any finesse, but I picked up no noticeable bitter notes, and the nuance has clearly shown through as the cigar has aged. The construction made me knock off a point or two, but it still quite a good cigar in my opinion. I’ll come back to the Cazadore for a second date, I’m sure of that. Total Smoking Time: 1 hour 22 minutes Score: 91/100 10
Chibearsv Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Nice review. I'm a big fan of the Cazzies both fresh and aged. Your flavor description is great. I can't separate all those flavors, I just know they have a lot going on. Thanks 1

I love that cherry note, it was different than other RyJ cigars to me. 1
