Popular Post SpecialK Posted January 27, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2022 The boy was home over Christmas/New Years break and we decided to give a couple of these a try along with the Cigar glasses my wife so thoughtfully gave us at Christmas.. I know they are kind of gimmicky to some, but they work reasonably well for a smaller cigar.. We had my pathetic attempt at an old fashioned in said glasses... I just can't seem to get it right (I'm open to input from for improvement) .. but that's another story.. On to the review Cold Draw: Mine was tight and needed some help with the cigar tool. The boy's was fine Construction/Burn: as stated above mine was plugged and afterwards didn't get much better.. Burn was all over the place.. The boy had no complaints. First Half: I got hints of sweet bread , cinnamon , and leather. The boy concurred Second Half: I got the same with a little dark chocolate. The boy got more spice, pepper, and the same dark chocolate. Summary / Score: even with the burn issues I felt it was a cross between a RASCC and a MC5 with the Cinnamon/Cocoa . I give it an 85/100, He gave his 88/90 Pictures: 16
traveller Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 Whats your old fashioned recipe? If you're using that maker's mark that's too smooth/refined. Ya want a rye with some mongrel in it. 2

I use the MM or whatever I can get my hands on, Cocktail Artist Old fashioned mix, a dash of orange juice, Maraschino cherry along with a little juice, and sometimes Bitters if needed , I assume the Old fashioned mix takes care of it ? I almost always have a chaser/mixer of ginger ale on the side in case it tastes like ass.. which is almost always the case...

Here's my recipe ( 1 serving) In your mixing glass: - use a peeler to get a couple inch long length of orange skin(no pith)- put in bottom of mixing glass - 1 sugar cube or equivalent - 3-5 hearty dashes of agonstura bitters - 1-2 dashes of orange bitters(optional - but very good) - muddle all together - Then add 2 shots of your whiskey(honestly the cheaper the better, Old overholt Rye or Evan Williams bottled in bond are great) - Mix a little to help dissolve the sugar - fill mixing glass with ice and stir until the outside of mixing glass is cold(or frosted if using metal tins) - Usually at least 30 seconds - strain into your drinks glass - add your ice - peel another piece of orange skin/zest, squeeze over glass then rub around the edge of the glass before putting in. Follow these steps to the letter and that'll be the best old fashioned you've ever had 2 1
Islandboy Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 Among my first acquisitions here were a box each of ’15 RGP and ’16 RGPC....neither were very impressive then so I put ‘em away and forgot about them. Had a few of each recently and was wowed...they really transformed into well balanced little flavor bombs. 1
