I would obviously prefer that Cuba had a real import/export industry beyond stuffing the cargo holds of the few commercial airliners that are still flying back and forth between Cuba and Florida. But they dont. And these "sanctions" do as much to change that as doing nothing at all. That's my point. Apologies if I misundertood you. I agree with your preference. My problem is that 90% of the Cubans relocating to the US are not political refugees or standing up for change in Cuba. It's a welcome win-win situation for the Cuban gvmt to let steam out of the pressure cooker and for Cubans to have the best of both worlds - after 365 days + 1 they become mules, fly back & forth and the perpetuum mobile continues ... 1

But most college graduates these days cant Identify 25/50 states on a map. Let alone understand the nuance of such a long and complicated issue. Nor do they care to. I wouldn't blame this on lack of education, general knowledge or anything specific to our times or the US in particular. People (almost universally) don't care about foreign policy anywhere near as much as domestic policy. Unless they have some particular reason to, like Cuban exiles.

This is a whole different can of worms. The current system alleviates some short term ills, to the detriment of the long term goal. As much help as it provides, it helps perpetuate the problem at the same time. We could talk in circles, for days on this. There are many rational, but opposing view points. There really isnt a good answer though. 40 minutes ago, Bijan said: I wouldn't blame this on lack of education, general knowledge or anything specific to our times or the US in particular. I think the over all the Knowledge level has decreased in our relationship with politics, but definitely not the engagement. I think as politics has become more and more a part of our daily lives its also become even more vanity than it ever was. Less engagement in true topics and positions, but far more engagement in partisan grandstanding. Many politician's grasp on Local and domestic policy is tenuous. At best. Because they can get away with it if their constituents are even less educated. 40 minutes ago, Bijan said: Unless they have some particular reason to, like Cuban exiles. Or Cigar Smokers. 😁 1
