atzemis
Was curious to get some thoughts on the HDM Epicure No.2 from people here. I purchased a box in the fall of 2020 (ABO ABR 19) and starting smoking them spring 2021. Initially I really loved them. They were a light bodied smoke with a light floral aroma that I really enjoyed. I've noticed in the past few months though that they've developed into something different -- they're now richer and have more of a woody aroma. I still enjoy them, but not as much as I did before. From the descriptions I've been reading lately (e.g. Prez's from tonight's 24:24 -- "cream, spiced cloves, cocoa and a touch of cinnamon") it seems like the new flavors are more in line with other people's experiences. So I'm wondering -- what are you experiences with the HDM Epicure No. 2 -- what sort of flavors do you typically experience from them? Have you noticed major changes as they've aged? I was also curious to see if anyone has a recommendation for a cigar with a light floral profile like I was originally experiencing.
Popular Post JohnS
I concur with what @Lord Verulam has added to the topic. Yes, cream, cedar and even floral aspects are typical flavours but they do vary. Getting a box where your HdM Epi 2s are mainly woody or even toasted tobacco is not unknown. Put it this way, no one has to tell you when you have a box that is a winner, you just 'know'! 4
karp
I've noticed there is variation between cigars from the same box too. Overall, recent Epi2 are darker wrappers and richer than in the past with some cocoa and nutty notes. Mild though, nothing like a Monte or Partagas. There is clove and ginger there too... I think they will smooth out over time and become more creamy. Give it some time maybe.

I've got two boxes of Epi - one smokes like @Lord Verulam says above, the other box have much darker wrappers verging on Maduro that are harsh and fiesty smokes. These definitely need a lot of time down to rest and develop. Epi 2 (and 1) I always find to be very creamy, very light but flavourful cigars - great morning smokes.

The wrappers seem super thick and dark - not at all the Epi 2 profile I'm used to. But I guess this is the 'fun' of Cuban Cigars. No two cigars, boxes, cases etc. etc. are ever the same!
atzemis
Interesting to see all these experiences! 2 hours ago, bmac said: What shade are wrappers?Colorado,Claro or even more Maduro? I'd say Colorado. Pretty dark but definitely not Maduro.
karp
Agreed - Maybe the darker wrappers need ageing.. I detect the core flavours still there in recent Epi2s but generally much richer. I guess we’ll see over time.
