Rafael Gonzalez Petit Lonsdales 2001.

The BR item is the très petit lonsdale 😋

Edit: these are Franciscanos discontinued in 2002 and the others were another mareva discontinued in the 80s. I've had a couple of these.

Yes, the "Petit Lonsdale" was the Marevas as was the Coronas Chicas. Nowadays, 3 Marevas would be far too few. Add a Linea Retro and another Duty Free special.

I always liked how the Lonsdale was the centerpiece of the RG lineup and the smaller 42 RG cigars were spun off from it. And then they killed the centerpiece of the lineup.

I guess we have the forthcoming Coronas de Lonsdales Hermosos No. 4 to look forward to, which I actually am.

Anyways from what I remember at around the 20 year mark dominant flavours were floral (lavender specifically) and almonds/bitter almonds/marzipan.

As contrasted with recent vintage RG cigars which have honey and earthiness and less floral aromas.

I've also had some RG Coronas extras and same floral/lavender element though I don't remember the rest I'd have to check my notes.

For someone evaluating this box, how much thought should be given to production issues from 2001?

I haven't had a lot of 00-01 RGs but every one I've had has performed well. That said, have a PerfecDraw handy.

I would agree with that for the RGs of that era. Extremely floral and that lavender you describe I would have described as maybe soapy or fabric softener (in a good way.) Very "dry". Zero sweet, zero salt, no earth, no fruit. Maybe a little woodiness and nuttiness as you say. Like a very dry white wine.

Honestly, it's not my favorite profile. But very distinct and unique. I would always prefer Partagas of that era. I also always thought the new brands performed well in the early years (Cuaba, SC & VR). In fact, I recall smoking a ton of Cuaba Generosos and Party SP/MF in cello in that 99-00 period. They were easiest to get in Mexico at the time.
