Popular Post CigarsBourbon Posted October 15, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 15, 2021 Home late after a long day, and decided I'd toast to my first sale ever as a realtor! I pulled this one from the first box of cubans I ever purchased. A 10-box with only 2 remaining. This thing starts off surprisingly mild in flavor! A clean bell pepper quality washes over my palate, while the retrohale adds a little cream. The burn and draw are perfect, but I'm hoping the flavor and complexity will pick up quickly. 10 minutes in, and BOOM, I'm suddenly greeted by a rich sweet cream. HELLO!!! It's reminding me of a Shorts, without the leather. The finish isn't long, but I'm catching traces of paprika. 20 minutes in, and here comes that classic cuban "twang" that I interpret as white pepper and sweet bread. On the finish, those notes give way to a sweet leather that I also notice on the foot smoke. The burn remains razor sharp, while the ash holds on nicely and the draw is perfection. Body has picked up to a medium along with the flavor and complexity. As I get into the 2nd third of this cigar, the sweet cream is the star of the show. Normally I start picking up a graham cracker from these, but so far it hasn't appeared. However, that sweet bread note is still there on the finish. I catch myself smoking too fast and washing the flavors out, so I slow my pace a little. What's the rush, man? Hello, sweet cream, my old friend. Just passing half way, and it continues smoking FLAWLESSLY. The cream gives way to something that I can only describe as a dark berry jam on sourdough toast. Yep...seriously. I don't know how to describe the foot smoke, other than to say it is heavenly. Just pure cuban all the way. Entering the final third, the sweet cream has returned, with that berry jam transitioning into stewed black cherries. The strength becomes noticeable...nothing overpowering, but certainly has put me in a relaxed state. At no point has the burn been anything but perfect. Sweet leather returns and lingers on the finish. Approaching the nub now, and the flavors begin washing together, but not "out". I feel some more strength now, and that's where I decide to end it. Overall, I am so delighted with this cigar. It smoked like a dream the entire way, and took me on a journey of flavors. Might have been the best one out of the box. I'm kind of sad that I only have one left, and I'm going to hold onto that one for a while to see what a little more age does for it. I don't normally think in terms of a score, but if I had to I'd give this one a 94, while the rest of the box hit around 90-92. Also, I lied...kept smoking it down to the last bit...and glad I did. Off to bed now, and hopeful my dreams will be half as good as this smoke was. Cheers to my FOTL. 8
