Our dear friend Fuzz recently chastised me for not having a better filing system in my life. I figure I have many filing systems so that has to be a better way to do things than just one. However, it does mean that ever so occasionally, things slip through.

As I am certain that anyone who has gotten close enough to me to hear me whinge of late, you’ll be aware that I am stuck south of the Queensland border unable to get home and having contracted an unbelievably painful case of shingles followed by what is known as postherpetic neuralgia, which one gets if one does not diagnose the shingles soon enough. Although I am sure some doctors on the site could provide more, and more accurate details. Anyway, as I have probably bored half the world with, as my rash did not appear until later in the proceedings, shingles was not considered. We went from possible blood clots (I have form with this, though not for fifteen years) to some form of bursitis to a prolapsed disc to an arthritic hip to, when finally the rash deemed to show itself, shingles. much appreciated. improving ever so slowly. very frustrating but at least it does seem on the move.

Your sharing your story is a painful reminder of my father having  to deal also with the excruciating disease  and intense pain and rash that iit causes.
Ken,your truly a brave individual,  and how you are dealing with this is miraculous.
I wish you all the relief and speed in recovery.  

This is also a reminder to our fellow members who are approaching 50 yrs old, who had Chicken Pox when younger should seriously consider receiving the inoculation of the Shingles prevention immunization.   Without it as we become older and our immune system becomes weaker   The possibility of the  inactive chickenpox virus,, reactivates and causes Shingles   

  I had Cancer and due to my weakened immune system I was given the Shingles earlier than required due to age.        Let’s all take notice and choose to have the Shingles inoculation when your doctor recommends.      In most cases it is recommended after 50-55 years old. Please all consider this, I rather never hear another gruesome story of this terrible condition.

many thanks but it sounds as though you've had it far tougher than me. 

i think it gets marginally better every day so while it is taking much longer than i would wish, it could be much worse. 

i would echo your thoughts 100% on the shingles vax. if i had known, i'd have certainly got one. it really is quite excruciating.

So sorry to hear this Ken. My sister had it in lockdown this year - juggling a high pressure job and 3 year old while working from home. Extremely painful and takes quite a while to calm down. And can be light sensitive too. Vitamin C and accupuncture helped her a bit but she needed the pain killers to get some sleep which is very important. All the best with it mate and hopefully you get well soon. Cheers

the last few days the first time i have managed a night without painkillers, although that might have been a mistake as about as much sleep as pills. i get better - fractionally - each day. but it does take ages. lord spare anyone with it looking after a kid.

Yikes. Hope you feel better and recover well, Ken.

Both of my parents had the shingles (I should get my inoculation soon) and my mother described it as second in misery only to kidney/gallstones.
