Diplomaticos No.3 - 2005 (JBWRW)*

  Another near end of an era smoke! This is my second to last Diplomatico no.3 not only that, it's my second to last Diplomatico full stop. For some reason another box or group split etc always came along and I never bought more. Strangely, Dips are what I usually crave the most too..

  Incredibly bad planning aside, out of the two I have left, only this sick has a great draw, the final one is open like a straw so I'm not holding out much hope for a good experience with that.

  Quite a papery feel to the wrapper, stretched a little too much by the feel of it. 

  Lighting up and there's a lovely nutmeg laden cloud of smoke building around me. Brill stuff!

  First few puffs are disturbingly quite newspaper-like, then whoosh and the flavour comes barreling in. Warm egg custard with loads of rich nutmeg. Straight into stride and it looks like this will give a great final showing for my Dips.

  There's a touch of roast meat, not something i would associate with Diplomatico but it's a pleasant change. Things are progressing quickly too; a hint of floral perfume and some notes of jasmine tea. There's no noticeable sugar-sweetness and it works well in this setting.

  Second third comes along but things are starting to lose balance. Most of the flavours from the first third have began to fall to the wayside. There's a flicker of that old lady perfume hanging around but it's settled into just straight tobacco. The burn had become increasingly erratic too.

  Getting into the final third and straight tobacco is something we're struggling to achieve here. It's dying on it's arse.

  I'm giving it my best but this thing has just given up. I think it gave all it had in that first third, desperate to hawk back to its heyday. The poor thing just didn't have the legs for it anymore. I place it down and let it quietly go out.

  A disappointment to be sure, I'm not even sure how to mark this that first third was excellent but in all honestly the rest of the cigar was just dead.

First third was the best third! Surprisingly a let down after. Yay for the Dips, best luck next, and more coming your way, they are most enjoyable.
