Popular Post ChangBang Posted August 9, 2021 Popular Post Posted August 9, 2021 Had a Cohiba Siglo IV that I've had in my humidor since February, about time to try one out! Give it a straight cut and draw is a little snug, seems like there maybe a little plug or hard spot right at the foot so I'm sure I'll get over it quickly. Light it up and we're away! 1- Smoke is pouring outta this, maybe that plug with a ton of tobacco is burning a lot? Either way draw is snug but opens up as I go through the first inch or so. Initial flavors are of lemongrass. I get a smooth retro with no bite. Little gasoline notes, which is fine by me. Goes into a wood followed by milk chocolate. Settles down to a faint lemony sweetness which eventually reminds me of a lemon pastry that isn't too sweet? Maybe a lemon tart? 2 - Getting decent ash which is always nice! 2nd half reminds me of lemongrass tobacco notes. After a few puffs, some cream replaces the lemon notes and I get a creamy tobacco pastry. The cream and the lemon come together and I'm getting lemon cake! As I search for flavors, I've noticed that I'm smoking fast and the lemon notes disappear and I'm just getting a cake-y flavor. Flavors get a bit richer and I'm getting jasmine/green tea notes and a floral flavor that is maybe a cross been a sweet jasmine and bitter green. 3- Last part starts with a grassy note with only hints of lemon. Getting a stronger, richer, and darker tobacco note at this time. Been purging every now and again, but give it a good purge at this point. Still ends up only a smooth dark tobacco note. Overall - 7/10 - this was a great cigar. The flavors, while there, weren't as bold as I would like. I'm hoping after some time the flavors will really come to shine and won't be as muted as they were in this example. Total time was 1hr 44min - pretty good burn time in my opinion! Still prefer the siglo III as it seemed the flavors popped more! 10 1
RDB Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Nice review, which reminds me very much of some 16/17 Siglo IVs that I finished recently. They were all lemon cake - a great experience. One of the nice things about Cohiba is the wide range of flavours from different examples. 1

Generally I get gasoline notes when cigar isn't burning quite right. Also in my experience Siglo IV are more flavourful than III or at least not any less flavourful. Also definitely flavours get a bit better/bolder with some rest time, so that's a good strategy. I've definitely gotten lemon/citrus, lemongrass, tea and sweet flavour in Cohibas. But other times coffee and/or vanilla though. 1

Hmm both were approximately at the same age, but I'll keep notes on the remainder that I have. Siglo III may have been a fluke on how good it was too. So far I don't think the IV is worth getting over the III with cost factoreded in.
