While I’ve had Reyes from other box codes that have done nothing but sing every time I smoke one (ARS and BSM box codes have been good), this one has so far been sub par.

Preflight is rich fermented tea, a little like forest floor humic aroma, generally pleasing.  There is a thread documenting another users experience that these feature a musty/muddy flavor profile.  These are also very spongy and underfilled - and the preflight draw is very loose.

profile in the first third has hints of the dark sweet richness, like a really good cappuccino.  However, it also had a strong muddy flavor, likely exacerbated by overheating.  As I mentioned previously, this one is very underfilled, so after reading about @PigFish’s Piggy Pinch technique, I clamped down on this sucker, and it gave a more restricted airflow, but more importantly a much richer flavor profile.  The muddy note has faded to what others probably describe as forest floor, and the creamy dark sweetness remains.  Quite enjoyable, but with the underfilling, this Reyes is going very fast.

Smoked down to a nub - and pinched to less than a third of the original diameter.  Enjoyable but not as a “full” experience as I’ve had with other Reyes.  Total smoke time just over 40 min.
