Smoked a HU Regalias earlier tonight as I had a break from doing some house work.  Haven't had one before, but have had the HUPC I got in the FOH petite sampler pack when I was just starting off.  I got 2 of these from the PIF thread so I figure why not see how it is(I'm still up the PIF if anyone wants some FREE CIGARS).  I used to gravitate towards PC's as it works for me and time-wise these take usually a hour.  I'm doing some things to the house and needed to let things dry so 1 hour is perfect.  I don't buy many PCs these days due to the draw/construction problems I've encountered and today was no exception.

Right off the bat, this is crazy plugged so I spent a few minutes going through it with the perfecdraw before lighting it up.  Def an improvement but still pretty tight, hoping while smoking I can roll and massage it to get some smoke.  Cigar itself isn't in the best shape so all the more reason to burn it.  Time is 7:32pm.

1/2 - It opens up with a perfume floral note that only lasts the first half inch or so followed by a charcoal-y taste all of which are enjoyable to me.  Half rounds out with a woody cedar and toasted tobacco note.

2/2 - Draw opens up and finally gets going.  Still remains the woody toasty tobacco note with some leather for the rest of the cigar.

Done at 8:42 so in total took 1hr and 10minutes from start to finish.  I think the tighter draw made it a slow smoke, but still somewhat normal for me.  My notes on the HUPC were similar but I got more earthy notes and a grassy finish on that.  I rated it higher in my spreadsheet, but I think thats mostly due to the draw plus my general newbieness at the time as I've gotten harder on my ratings as I've smoked more haha.

Overall I give it a 4.5/10 mostly due the draw issues, flavors were enjoyable

So when the perfect draw hasn’t worked for me, I have stored my cigars in the fridge for about 15-30 min depending on size.

A few of the members on here also utilize this technique. It will evaporate some of the excess moisture and open up a few air channels in the shaft of the cigar to give you a better draw. It has worked wonders for me!

Ahhh, man, we warned you to rest the PIF for 90 days. Out of the send, those were the least ready to go 😂 and the first out of the box. They just went through the freeze cycle after a long trip from the EU and the heat wave. EU is notorious for 69 rH shipping and storage. Being Upmanns with that kind of age we couldn’t resist buying the box for the winter. Not that it might have changed if plugged. Hit us up in two months and we’ll send you some more.

Yep I've experimented with that but I prefer sticking em in the freezer vs fridge, seems to work better for me.

62% Bovedas keep my stuff perfect and never a moisture problem but I am in a low humidity area in California

I keep my stuff in the low-mid 60s% so they're good to go in that regard.  Been experimenting with 55% humidity packs too!

Haha no worries, I thought with that age you've had em for a while!  That being said the rest(minus one of the macanudos) are in the freezer atm and then I'll be good and wait the 90 days haha.  Just smoked one of the macanudo's tonight, and it was good to go!  That HU one got beat up from the transit so I didn't mind sacrificing it lol.  Haha thanks for the offer!

Yes, the Macanudos have been smoking well for the past couple years with the periodic sampling. They’ve had the most rest (years) so you picked the bookends to try 😂

Can hope we can do an in person sometime after the pandemic 😷 looses grasp and we are back to frequent travel. We usually get through that direction every year.

Hahaha lucky me!  Really just wanted to be able to use those metal bands so I went for one!  Ended up talking to the neighbor for a while so didn't pay too much attention but man that burn was razor sharp and required zero relights!

Yea if you come to the Denver area, I'm down!  Eventually I'll have to check out Amarillo, kind of work for southwestern power so would be cool to check out that hq.
